...and got the Italia instead. Some of you may think that I am crazy, but after much deliberating, I thought the coupe was the better car for me. After enjoying and loving my first convertible ever, the 430 spider, I thought the 458 spider was a natural transition. But then I remembered why I love my sports cars; it's those track days. The spider was too much of a compromise for me, a little bit slower, a little bit heavier, and a little bit less stable. And I live in Canada! Who needs a convertible in the Great White North? So I am placing my order for the 458 Italia, but I will miss those topless country road days.

So I have decided (finally) on:

    Rosso Corsa
Diamond finish 5 point sports wheels
Black calipers (this was a tough one for me, yellow?, red?, but the calipers really stand out, they're very big on this car, i want the wheels to stand out more)
    Fender shields
Carbon Fibre front wings, rear bumper, and external side sills (still debating the side sills)
    Nero interior with red stitching
Carbon Fibre sports seats with red stripe, stitched Cavallino
    Carbon Fibre Driving zone
    Red seat belts
    Nero alacantara headliner
(still debating if I need leather cabin upholstery option?)
auto dim rear mirror and homelink (not side bc of window tinting)
    Nav, upgraded stereo, ipod

Some may think this is a boring car (it could be worse, black on black?) but I wanted to keep the exterior traditional but make the interior modern, in keeping with the tech of the car. But if I really miss my spider days I can always change my mind in a few years. From what I have been reading on this forum, however, the 458 is more than enough of an upgrade on the 430 to keep me busy for a while.

enjoy. i also like the coupe because you can see the engine. and also, i think black on black is one of the best combinations for the 458, looks awesome.

Nothing boring about this car. Pretty close to how I would order mine. Congrats!
I would personally skip the decorative carbon fibre, headliner and leather cabin upholstery. I also prefer the coupe, living in a hot desert climate.

Did you forget the rear parking sensor? I think that is handy to have.

Good choice esp on calipers. Bling calipers start to look like crap when used hard and bled often

Sounds really similar to my car. I would favor the leather headliner because it is close to your head and you will get a better dose of that great new leather smell. Also, I would think hard about the red seat belts. Apparently, the buckle is a cheap looking red that is lighter than the rest of the belt and doesn't match. Perhaps you could ask for the red belts with the standard black buckle.

Go for the red. İ have yellow on mine and even though some have commented on the cheap buckle, its worth it all the way. Can see the pictures here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377082

I decided on the Italia when the Spider was an option. There is a great case for both of them, for me the Italia clearly outweighed the Spider. Glad you're happy with your choice now, will be even better when she arrives! Congrats.

The 8th picture of your nero Italia side on looks amazing.

Love how the reflections wrap over the curvaceous body work, you never tire at how well proportioned and balanced the 458 is when looking side on.

    Great photos!

    Congrats kenTO,

I was in a similar position to yourself, trading out of the 430 spider I didn't hesitate going into a coupe over the spider. Great specs, you will love the rear CF bumber and the race seats adds to the high tech interior.

Great build spec. It's gonna look cool. I agree with your logic on the coupe and the black calipers. So what is the estimated delivery date for a Canadian Coupe?

I do not blame you at all. Where I drive the car, it's sunny 99% of the time. If I lived in a cold climate or one with a lot of rain, the additional costs and trade-offs make no sense for a spider.

Did you get the CPRK racing package? Because you get all that stuff and the carbon dash for about 2 grand less than buying it separate. If you don't want the carbon dash, then you don't want CPRK.

Black interior or Cuoio interior? If you got Cuoio, you should look at the upper and lower zones in leather also as well as the back behind the seats and the roof liner. The standard roof liner is a simple silver mesh looking thing.

    You made the right choice!

Deciding between coupe or spider is one of life's best decisions. How many decisions do we get to make whose outcome is great either way, yet is tough to make.

    Enjoy.

My only comment on the incremental difference in performance would be it's meaningless to me. I just don't have the capabilities to take the car to the point where I'd notice. I envy you if you have those skills - I'm going to be taking the pilotta course in Maranello as the start of my journey to improve but I think it will take a while to get to your level.

It's a 30 grand difference at least between coupes and spiders. That's a lot of dough if you can't drive with the top down much. It think that's the point. On the street, if you even dared to get the performance out of it you'll be behind bars. :)

Brightly painted calipers are only to please bystanders. Glowing orange disks are so much better :)

Very true - I have to say - I just love being in the car - even in downtown Perth where the speed limit is 40km/hr. Just love it.

I agree. I plan to do 6 track days a year, not a lot, but at least it gives me an idea of what the car can do. In no way do I consider myself an expert driver and I really never plan on testing the car to it's limit (that would mean about a 200 mph slide!).

The Mayor is right, though. I thought about how much driving I do topless, and the thing about having a spider is you only want to drive it when it's nice with the top down. It's a psychological thing. i find I drive my other cars in all sorts of weather, and I only bring my F430 spider out when I think, hey, it's a nice day and I feel like going for a country drive. I don't want my Ferrari to be that kind of car. I want it to be a car that I can drive anytime (it doesn't snow). I know with the new hard top convertible you have the best of both worlds, but like I said, it's a psychological thing. So I would rather spend the extra 30 grand on options. I've always been a coupe kind of guy, and some people are spider kind of guys, and that's just the way it is.

Had the Italia for 15 months and loved it.
Have the spider for 2 months and love it too.No way I can discern the 0.1 sec or 100 lbs diff between the coupe and spider on the street and am too long in tooth to do much track time.

The spider is great here in the NW for 4 mo or so and wonderful in Santa Barbara for 3 mo in the winter. And I love the way that retractable roof folds.Another advantage for me with the spider is no rear glass to clean! I never could get it clean.
