So this looks like the typical "send me money first" scam. Tried and tested thing and works even after 30+ years when it first started. Similar to the Nigeria scams (I have an inheritance, or whatever, send me money to release the funds).

Even today, many people make a living out of those scams. There are just too many gullible people out there.

You always have to make sure that the car exists, that the seller has the car in his hands and he is legally able to sell the car if he is not the legal owner.

and always get a PPI

That's what I did: sent copies of everything to the fraud squad. Never heard back from them, but hey, this is Africa.
In my case they used ebay, and even produced ebay protection to prospect buyers. Reading everything carefully though, it was easy to detect the fraud, as e-mail addresses weren't quite what they ought to be.

If you have a landline number and banking details it ought to be easy to sift them out.

 

Stephaan sent the e-mail trail, along with the bank account information, to Barclays Bank. Hopefully they will freeze the account and the crook will loose the money (probably very pounds) he has deposited.

I send a Copyright infringement e-mail the Use.com, that was hosting the photos. They immediately took them down.

Unfortunately these crooks are like mushrooms, you squash one down and another pops right up. I see this all the time, but it is usually with a Jaguar e-type. Trying to sell a Vignale spyder prototype that does not belong to you is really, really dumb. Better to pick a more common car which people would have a problem identifying the real owner.

In the end it is the buyer's responsibility to make sure he is dealing with a real seller with a real car.
