S/N 64537 has moved on to new ownership. The grand lady sold for $95k + 10% Bidder fee. Buyer and Seller were both happy with result.

I hope it helps other TR owners by lifting the values a smidge. The TR definitely deserves it's day in the sun and I believe it will come soon. The sub 200 mile car at RM Auction ($240K !!) and mine are solid data points of what's to come for the lucky TR owners.

    Congrats on the sale!

I couldn't hold out to bid on your car... too late at night. I just watched the recording of the sale. Seems like there was some healthy activity.

I ended up buying the 1957 Devin that was there at Russo. Wifey and I'll have some fun with that for a little while.

Congrats - cool car you got there !

I think I'm going to try something a little different for a while. Looking for an Alfa Romeo Duetto. I guess I'm a sucker for anything bodied by Pininfarina with a goofy single mirror. :)

I saw this car last night and I envy the new owner. It was beautiful. Congrats. It's ironic , the new owner paid the sticker price for it.

    Rick,
What do you know about the new owner? FChat member? Previous F-car experience? Do you sense he will put miles on it or will it go back into a collection? Anyway, congrats on the sale and again for the personal tour last year with my son--truly a remarkable car.

Im the new owner. Just could pass up on the car. Was past my budget for sure but the car and the owner where just the perfect combination of what you want when you buy a car to keep for the long haul. It was a true price set by the market. There where several bidders on it so no arguing that that was what the car was worth, by definition. Its beautiful.

Congrats... Please accept this invite to join us for the BBQ in September 22, 2012 at my winter home in La Verne. We should have over 15 TRs including two 512Ms... The car was part of Prancing Thunder group and love to see her again. I will PM you...

Back on the subject of the car itself -

It reminds me of that Gran Sport Buick Turbo with 25 delivery miles that sold for twice the going rate for a really good one.

Pointless - if you drive the car around the block three times, you have destroyed half the value. But, if you put it in a museum, nobody will really be able to tell that this has practically zero miles (with so many well restored or preserved cars out there with moderate miles).

I think this was a huge waste of money.

You must be referring to the '89 TR with 129 miles that sold for $240k at RM. Yes, that was a little nuts.

64537 is the perhaps the finest example of a TR on the planet and had 5,056 miles at time of sale. There is a reason that the Red/Tan '90 TR with 6,000 miles at Russo & Steele only pulled $56k. It was a fine example - nothing wrong with it at all - 64537 is just THAT much better. The bidding action on my (ex) car was, in a word, frenetic. The buyers knew what they were looking at.

IMHO, it was a BARGAIN at what the new owner paid. He can continue to drive it (or not) and this car will climb in value - guaranteed. All the best to you LuckyLuke!

Yes, I was talking about the $240,000 car. $95K for yours would not have been off the mark.

The 56K for that 90 with 6,000 miles seems too low to me.

Thanks and yes, it was ironic, the same thing crossed my mind about the final price vis a vis the original MSRP. Of course, we know that these things didn't trade at MSRP in the 80s but still, too funny. :D

New owner is great guy with remarkably similar taste in cars (besides the TR). If I don't find the Duetto I'm after, I may be looking to buy an e30 M3 off of him.

    Thanks!

If you plan to make it, I could bring up all the awards, brochure and custom Kyosho model. BTW, did you get my email I sent the other day - I'm thinking it might have gone into SPAM. In case you're wondering, the "pajamas" for the luggage is sitting inside of one of the smaller pieces. Oh yeah, and the other license plate is under the driver's side carpet. PM or email me with any questions at all.

I hope you guys will still have me!

Indeed, I would love to see her again...anytime. And, if the new "Lucky" owner ever wants to sell, I've got DIBS! :)
