If I had to guess I'd guess it will be VERY cool. (and fast)
even though mclaren obviously won't go with a v12 in future, i disagree with them that the v12 is next to be extinct ...clients pay for the romance of motoring, the reason ferrari and aston can charge the $ they do, and the v12 engine is an essential part of that IMO
Mclarens has a long history of engine building, don't they? Lol. How do they know what customers want? Maybe he's deaf.
Anthony Sheriff confirmed the new P12 for Paris Motor Show. The new Enzo probably will be shown at the same place. The spy shots: http://imgbox.com/aacIclxP http://imgbox.com/aau1brdh http://imgbox.com/aatafU9x
McLaren has nothing to be worried about with the F1 Replacement, I bet Jim will vouch for this as well. It is fantastic!
IMO the new P1 mclaren and Enzo replacement Ferrari, will both meet Veyron performance levels ....given the performance benchmark of the 458 and 12C have, they will have to be "that" much higher/better
I agree. I guess I'm still in the far minority with thinking these cars are focusing all too much about how much powers it will have (the magical 1000 number) instead of achieving similar acceleration figures with much less weight and some 300hp less, but much better under braking/cornering etc. It's becoming way to much comedy for my liking. I mean, how much fun will a 1000hp Enzo II or P12 really be on a race track? Exciting a second gear turn will mean nothing but traction control interference until the next corner. They've all lost the plot IMO. The Veyron needed the power it has because it's sole selling point is idiotic top speed (something still only a handful of owners have experienced, by the way). Mclaren/Ferrari should have gone the low weight/lower power way IMO. But what do I know.
The whole top speed thing baffles me. There is almost nowhere on earth that you can go for terminal velocity, especially in a car capable of over 200 mph. And if you have a tire failure it is by definition going to be very bad.
I agree with your point, but supercars have always been about pushing boundaries and numbers. And as far as I'm concerned, they should power on before environmentalists worldwide ban them completely... Other than that, I'm with the "it's better to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow" crowd. Is the P12 name official?
No. It's only the name of the project. The MP4-12C was called P11 before it was unveiled. P12 and P13 are the next projects.
I'll believe it when I see it. The fax machine has to use BS "dry" weight to get there (as in no oil, coolant, fuel, etc). Curb weight is not that far from the decidedly low tech body-on-frame C6 Z06
Well some of us have seen it, and I guess we will know more on Sept 26 when McLaren publishes the figures, lets just say it is smaller than the MP4 12/C.
