I've been following the Clint Dempsey saga, definitely becoming a black spot for him and Fulham. I give Jol a ton of credit, but let's assume Clint isn't coming back - why is he treated as tainted goods by the rest of the BPL? Aside from Liverpool, couldn't Arsenal benefit from his talents? He'd be a good fit and come (relatively) cheap. I get that Americans have a bit of a stigma, but this is a little silly...no?
Haven't been following, so I forwarded your post to "da boys". [Who suffer soccer withdrawal during the summer! ] Toms response; So, now we know - "Too big for his boots" in summary...... Cheers, Ian
Yep, I would have stayed with Fulham myself - nice club, mid pack. Made Europa in past years, but certainly not Champions league. I think he's a solid player, but I don't think he's got enough to attract the big teams...
Thanks for posting that, I hadn't really heard the full story. It seems to me that staying with Fulham, getting playing time, and hopefully have another great season would be better for his future then riding the bench at some club with a bigger bankroll.
I would agree - he was certainly liked by the fan base and coaches there. And Fulham didn't have a poor finish - surely Europa qualification is within their grasp. Going to Sunderland is a step down IMHO (although might be good to play for O'Neill). What are the chances he stays? I'm thinking pretty good...
Hey, So, A few hours back I received the following text from Tom; For the uninitiated, the "yid army" are Tottenham. As Spurs supporters, we can call them that. I have no idea why they're thought of as a Jewish club, and there's no Jewish in our ancestory, but there we go. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how much he starts - Tom said Spur's bench was long. But 6MM (UKP, ~$9MM) for a season is significant. Not huge, but "biggish"........ Cheers, Ian
Overall, I think he did well but playtime does seem to be an issue. I think he can take a starting position if he does well. Maybe taking over Aaron Lennon's position...
I agree about play time as well. I look at Berbatov to Fulham as an example, he has to be happy to be on the pitch at least. And what of poor Chicharito? I hope Dempsey made the right choice. I am happy to see him at Tottenham, but the playing time concerns me. AVB isn't my idea of a player's coach either (not that Dempsey needs that, but it's always good to have the confidence of your coach).
