Is the power cube warranty a big rib off..??

I have purchased the power cube warranty, IMSS adviser claims that it basically cover up everything. However I can't engage my MT F430 into any gear, it seems that the clutch has bearing or the spring has been damaged.
Then IMSS says the warranty does not cover it. Because it's Tear and wear parts, and demanding HK$80,000 repairing cost. The thing is the clutch did not slip. And is not wearing out. From what know if my clutch is slipped and I am entile to pay.
I just think it's a big rip off from IMSS.

Any suggestions guys

Unfortunately stuff like brakes, discs, bearings, clutch flywheel and release bearings are indeed not covered by warranty...

After disassembly your looking for the component that ultimately caused the failure. All resulting damage should be covered if a covered component failed and caused further damage.

 

I think the cost is really excessive and I did not get it when my 05 went out of warranty. I've saved enough already to pay for just about anything that could go wrong. It's hard for me to believe people pay up for coverage that ends up costing most people about $3/mile. If I was that worried, I'd sell the thing.

I have not seen the official documentation of the PC warranty but I'd be surprised if a TOB was not considered a 'wearing' item. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the verbage of the warranty document itself said something to the effect of "clutch and related clutch-operating components" or something like that.

A previous service manager at Algar told me back in '05 that the warranties are generally not worth it.

 

Like all insurance, it is only worth it if you need to claim. Well worth the insurance cost if the engine lets go! Beyond that, maybe not.

 

I'd be VERY surprised if the clutch release bearing was now covered under power cube. It certainly has never been so in the past.....

 

I am "self-insured". Even with my header issue I have no regrets.

 

Im only speaking through my own experience as I am an advisor at a dealership. On "normal" cars and service contracts a throw out bearing and pilot bearing are typically listed for coverage as they are not normal wear and tear, just like a wheel bearing is not normal wear and tear.

 

Hi Tim. I've no doubt that you are right about that, its just that FNA is a little different that most manufacturers but, like i said, I've never seen the documentation. It seems like Rustybits has and seems to think it isn't covered.

I've heard stories/rumors that FNA used to try and get out of header replacement claiming they were 'wearable' parts!

 

Ferrari's red-on-line claim system has techs running through hoops before warranty claims are authorised. I've been out of the dealer network for a good few years now but I remember having to hook up a dial guage to measure run-out on a rear wheel bearing and having to take numerous photos and send them off, all this on a nearly new 360 before entertaining the possibility of changing it, That car sat about for 3 days just for an hour and a halfs work! Sometimes warranty claims both factory or power can be a nightmare; other times straight through. Luck if the draw!

 

What is so remarkable about Ferrari is what they can get away with and still command such a high price for anything and everything -- whether its a coffee mug with their namesake, a header, or a new 458 spider.

Whether its having dealers jump through hoops to process claims, having buyers made to wait 18+ months for a new car (and sometimes having to buy another, less desirable model first to 'prove' themselves), or paying obviously overblown prices for Bosch parts which are put in Ferrari boxes, its all just part of the ownership experience. Of course, its that same ownership experience that causes people to constantly stop dead in their tracks, try to take photos of me (actually, my car) while they are driving, or in one case a young woman to offer a proposal of marriage. When you are getting it fixed or something breaks it kinda sucks, but at all other times it is a privilege.

It all comes with the territory when the marque is as storied as Ferrari, and when the top 10 most expensive cars in the world right now have 3 of them as Ferraris (and numbers 1, 2, and 3 respectively)

it cost about half to change the clutch in usa and usa labor cost more, that pok guy try to rip you off?

 

I am still waiting for replacement headers. Have you heard anything?

 

I am shock that pilot and throw out bearing are not covered, in the power cube warranty program. Those adviser still keep saying that it covers up everything like new cars.

They also told me if you bring your car to track, and nothing will be covered as well.

You say that the advisor say that if you track the car nothing will covered.
This very true - I tracked a few cars of all makes and all these warranty are void if car has been tracked, in all makes!
If you track day your Ferrari you should know this...
Did you have a report on your clutch parts from last service???
In my car history I never had a clutch parts covered and especially if track raced.

 

Nope It sucks because I have my Fabspeed headers n blankets, and capristo brackets whiting... Not to mention I want to drive my car.

Interesting this is really the only way to dehabituate.

I just extended/ purchased the Power Normal on my 08 F430 a few weeks ago while in for an annual service. Covers all major items.

 

You should view Ferrari as an insurance company that wants to sell you a policy. They do it because on average they will make money. An owner should not buy it if he can afford to pay for the occasional big repair. On average the owner will come out ahead if he self-insures. I know an owner who created a separate savings account just to fund repairs. Whatever works.

When I purchased my car I decided to buy the Power Cube warranty ($5800). Being my first F car I was nervous and wanted full coverage. After a year and that warranty was about to expire I purchased the Power Normal warranty ($4000). Hopefully I wont need the warranty this year but I can sleep at night knowing I am covered. Sure, thats possibly $9800 down the tubes but a motor or F1 tranny costs a hell of a lot more......

 

It costs that much only if you have that motor or tranny repaired by the Dealer.

That's some wild gambling. You put $9800 down on a very slight chance that something catastrophic will happen, and happen very soon, that might cost twice as much as your insurance premium to fix. And that doesn't include normal wear items.

IMHO, Ferrari is, and has for years, taken advantage of the fear people have of the cars' complexity. Which is ironic because the success of Ferrari is built on reliability and proven technology.

So, yes, this guy's opinion is that it is a Big Rib Off.

Warranties in general are a house bet which is why I don't play 'em. You roll your dices and take your chances!
