Do you know how much he is asking for 0585GT now? I see he also has a beautiful yellow 275 GTB/4. http://www.talacrest.com/stock.asp
Yeah I like the yellow 275 GTB/4. I wonder if the outside fuel cap was an original option? I am going to write him and find out. I will keep you posted. I will also ask the price of the TDF....
Looks like it was a factory option. See the link below. You may have known that already and just wondering if the outside fuel filler is original or a later addition on the yellow car? Please keep us informed. http://www.gtoengineering.com/news/?p=75
In my newest issue of Cavallino, something extraordinary has happened. I think for the first time ever: Prices of TDF are now indicated higher (in the price guide) than the Steel bodied SWB. Which makes sense I think. TDF produced only 77 versus 160+ for the SWB.
Sounds like the market has finally appreciated just how special and historically significant any TdF really is. Jeff
Mr Saran's, i've been reading this thread since it started. I became a fan of you 275 gtb/4 since you first showed it here on Fchat, and i got really curious about your next purchase. I believe we are about the same age, and i must confess the TDF was a bit unknown to me. You say the TDF as richer racing story but the truth is, every time a think about the SWB, i remenber about Stirling Moss, and i see it as a racing machine, the TDF does not bring to mind such a quick association. I must confess that the SWB is one of my all time Ferrari favourites, and when i started to look the TDF videos and pictures i had no doubt the SWB was the best looking of the two. In time however i've come to apreciate the TDF, i believe the car is growing on me each time i look at him, however, i still prefer the SWB, as i believe it as a more racing look and i think it´s one of the most beautifull Ferraris ever made (as is your 275 GTB/4). I´m no expert and i never drove any of them but for what i red and heard, i would guess that the SWB would be the better handling car to drive.I also desagree that the TDF is more of a connoisseur's choice, you are buying the car for yourself and not to state or show something to others so, you should simply get the one you like the most, regardless of how others will look at your choice. Believe me, someone who owns a 275GTB/4 and speaks about it the way you do, is a connoisseur. Wichever car you decide to buy, i´m pretty sure it will be amazing and that you'll be very happy with your purchase.
Firstly thank you for your very kind words. I appreciate them. Being called a connoisseur has already made my day. To respond to your Email: SWB is probably a better handling car, according to the reports I have read, that is true. Don't forget it is also a younger car than the TDF. I am glad you never heard of the TDF. I never heard of it also untill late last year when I was doing research on Ferrari's. I have known the SWB since many years. Its the Ferrari that most of my friends want. They all mention the SWB. I think some say it and do not know what it actually means (after all there are several SWB chassis which has nothing to do with the SWB we are talking about). I like the SWB a lot. I think its a very pretty car and for sure more sexy in a way that the TDF. The rear of the SWB is just gorgeous. The funny thing about the TDF is that in the beginning I did not even like it. I thought the 'fins' in the back looked strange and thought the car not masculine enough. Then I got to see one in real life and a dealer showed me the lines of the car. I liked it a little more. The more I studied the car and the more I read about it the more I liked it. Much like the 275 GTB/4. I always thought a Lusso was much more beautiful. But something about the 275 did not leave me in piece. I read and read and the more I found out the more I liked what I had read. Ofcourse I am not going to buy the TDF just because I think its more of a connoisseur car than the SWB. But I like that it is a connoisseur car. Just like I like wearing watches which unless your a vintage watch expert, you would not look twice. And my friends are all wearing the white dial new Rolex Daytona in steel thinking they own the world. I get a kick out of wearing a watch that was born 40 years earlier (alright and is many times more valuable than new watches). So do I like that the TDF is made only 77 times? Yes. Do I like the fact that all cars were alloy bodies? Ofcourse. Do I like that the car was the basis upon which other great cars developed (250 TR, SWB and GTO). Yes. Do I like that Gendebien (for me the greatest road and long distance driver of all time) won in the TDF. Yes. That the TDF won the Tour De France race more than 6 times? Yes. That De Portago won the race in france with a TDF (which is why the car is called Tour De France - hence TDF). Yes. I know Moss won while listening to the radio in the SWB. Lastly do I like that many people including yourself didn't know much about the TDF? Yes. It all adds to the mystique of the car. I am still not sure what car to get. I often write like I have made up my mind already. I have not. But my bias lies with the TDF. Everytime I learn something about the car or see another article, or see another picture, the car grows on me. Its like magic.
Looks like a competition model with the tow away cable in the back and the bug deflector in the front bonnet. I am not sure I like the 'pieces of metal' above the exhaust (presumably to protect the exhaust ends?).
I think you will find that the "piece of metal" is only on the side of the fuel filler, and is to protect from spilled fuel catching on fire. (Comp cars only).
Thanks, Mr Niles. I was wondering what it was for and why only one side. On 2689 GT too. What's the round opening in the bonnet on the red car for? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=096eQGXXV9I[/ame]
I think it could be for the radiator? The oil filler is to the left of the left cam cover which would require an opening much further up the bonnet.

Back up for sale. http://www.talacrest.com/Ferrari-Sales/Ferrari-250-GT-LWB-Tour-De-France/5980.htm Mr Collins also has 330 LM Berlinetta 4725SA for sale. http://www.talacrest.com/Ferrari-Sales/Ferrari-330-LMB/6013.htm
Yes, that's it. I don't know what's happened. Not sure who bought the car from the auction but it was on Talacrest's site for sale soon after. Then it was removed from their inventory and now it's back on again. I'd like to know the asking price.
