430 Scuderia or 360 Challenge Stradale?

OK, I will apologize for my comment (I was just trying to be funny and hoped you weren't making a rash decision despite your income - I care about the kids, dude).

Car talk:
I love the CS but you would really have to drive them both and see which one gets the blood pumping. As far as market and resale return, I would go with the CS. Seems to be a solid bet because it is almost a 10 year old car and 2 designs removed from the upcoming 458CS or 458-Scud or whatever they're going to call it, so you know the Scud is going to take a price hit. The CS should be a safe bet. Check with STOKPRO... "The Stradale-Lama."

 

In my opinion Scud is more friedly than CS. Both of the cars are A M A Z I N G. The choice is yours ;-)

Thanks for your opinions guys (and gals?) from every angle. Everything at this point for me is research. While my son wants that screaming F1 for the street, I am still not sure I want to rid myself of the 575M. Being an "old" guy and that smooth power band of the V12, we need to think long and hard about it. Personally, I like the 360 CS but it is hard to argue with the performance of the 430 scud. I also find the lines of the CS to be more attractive and smoother than the scud while the stance of the scub is more aggressive (modern?). The question is where is the scud going to go from here? As some others mentioned, you are looking at about 2000 example of the scud and about 377 for the CS. Seems to me the decision is this: exclusive and stable CS or power and performance for the scud without knowing where it is going vs the 458 and future versions of the 458. Think about it. With scuds going for around 190K and 458's in the mid 200K, what is going to happen 2 to 3 years from now when (if) 458's get near that 200K price? In my opinion, the CS is already there................

moazip, you need to realize how your OP sounded, as well as the fact that you only had 5 posts to Fchat when you authored this thread. Noboday had a clue you were experience wrt to how expensive Ferrari ownership could be. So, forgive the financial related (and good natured) comments...

 

The 458 price dropping will compress the Scud pricing between the 458 and 430 Spider;

360 -> 360_Spider -> 430 -> 430_Spider -> Scud -> 458.

*I left out the 16M because they were truly limited numbers and the 458-16M is a few years away at best.

 

I think you misjudged the current prices of the 458s just a tad much. They are going for over 250k easily, so that isn't really "mid 200k". And those even near the 250-260 range are higher mileage and first year base 2010 models, so no race seats, carbon etc etc. Just gauge it out from a fleabay snapshot:

Likewise with the scud, if you opt for an 08, you can have one in decent condition and moderate miles for 175-190 depending on color and options. 09s are still holding at high 190s and above.

So, I believe the correct assumption is the 458s will go to mid-low 200k, but in 2-3 yrs time definitely not now.

This is exactly my point. I know it is impossible to tell for sure, but how much will the 458 prices affect the scud? When I bought my 575, it was influenced by the 599 market. With the intro of the F12, that will change though it will take time. When we buy our toys, we buy them for pleasure and enjoyment, but no one wants to find themselves up-side-down if it can be avoided. It's that simple.

Anyhow, the Stradale is the way to go. They sell pretty darn easily too & that consideration should be part of your exit strategy.

 

If the choice is CS or Scud. The CS will hold or go up in value.

As far as using the 'kid's' money. There is always student loans, state schools and heaven forbid....... a part time job!

The only problem with buying a CS, is you won't want to sell it!

Why don't you sell the 575 and put it towards a CS?

 

There's not that much performance difference between the Scud and the CS on a normal road.
Buy which ever one you like and hopefully people will have the same reason and therefore demand will out strip supply - that's the only impact on prices.

As stated on here before - the Stradale was the last car to be built on its own production line and took all the best 360 engines after they had been dyno'd. This didn't happen on the Scud.

Lots of people rate the Strad 2nd behind the F40 and in my eye that can only be a good thing for prices.

CS production was 1288 cars not 377.

 

And, no one outside of Ferrari actually knows the US Scud production numbers...there've been plenty of guesstimations on the boards though and a claim from a speculative but alleged credible source here:

I agree with both of your posts. Also it seems clear that people with a CS love them to no end but the Scud is the better car and is priced accordingly. I also agree the scud has held its value we'll for the last few years or so as I have been looking for one. God forbid you want a white one.

360, CS, 430 & Scud all have their place. I don't know if I will part with my 360 even when I upgrade so that says a lot about a 360.

If you can afford to get a scud that would be my suggestion either way it will be fun.

 

The Scud is much more comfortable ride that CS and definitely more power and torque than CS.

Who cares which is fastest? If that's all you care about, buy a vette or Porsche.

 

Not exactly the point...was just trying to put up numbers in response to the "there's not that much performance difference between the Scud and the CS" comment.

But if you want to skew the discussion towards that then by all means...

 

There will always be a faster car.

There will never be any more CS's or Scuds built. Just what exists now and what will survive in the future.

If performance is all you care about, Ferrari probably isn't your best choice in cars.

 

Can anyone explain the wild price differences for the Scuds? I mean outside of the obvious. Just talked to a dealer on Long Island who had a 2008, silver, no stripe with 2200 miles. All books, service records, etc. Asking price was 173K. He just took a depost yesterday and car is in PPI. But I have seen many at 201K while most are around 185 - 189K. What is going on here?

 

Just because the CS was built in limited numbers doesn't make it better than a scud unless you are building a collection.
