Mark, I didn't get any pics of your car's interior...can you send some over? It looks amazing in person. The paint is beautiful. LS
Lashss, Yes, it was fairly low mileage.. under 20k. However it was sold back in 04/05 timeline.. I would hope that it had found a good home. My car also had a set of custom headers that rolled right into the quad-tips at the rear.. no premufflers etc The Campy's did not go w/it in the sale.. sold them seperately.
Montreal Fiat Breakout Day, 170+ Italian cars, Panteras were well represented. DavidB, MichelS, DenisB, Gaetano ans CarmenL Today we found-out the proper use for the Delta wing Image Unavailable, Please Login
met a very nice guy named Tim at a show here in FL earlier this year... hoping when it's a little better driving weather (Sept or so) to give him a call and do some driving....great looking car Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe mine will be the only one in that category. While I love the reliability and low cost of engine parts, the one thing that bothers me is I see Pantera owners being frozen out of the fancier concours in the future because they can't help modifying their cars. I know Ford delivered them with heavy cast iron intake manifolds, the wrong carb, heavy exhaust headers, etc. and that 99% of the owners change the cars to parts that work better, are lighter and better looking, but concours judges look for originality above all. Which leaves them out in the cold. Now mangusta owners have for the most part come around to originality. I don't see customized ones anymore. I am not trying to pick a fight, it's just that I find Panteras are an Italian marque taken over by the custom crowd.
Custom is a very broad word. Yes guys do make improvements on their cars, no monster scoops, pinstripes, vinyl roofs, fuzzy interiors *that I have seen*. Please note that at last year's Italian car day. People's choice went to a much modified late model Ferrari with ton's of carbon fiber parts, Scuderia stripe on hood , Italian flags on mirrors, custom exhaust and other aftermarket components. So yes there are purists out there, but also buys that enhance performance, safety and comfort of their 40 year old cars. ** some even save all the original parts in case they or next owner would wish to retuernthe car to it's original state.**
Historically, your observations could be considered accurate. This is changing rapidly...there are stock or nearly stock Detomaso cars that are being celebrated now more than ever at concours events. Modifications are in the eye of the beholder when not performed for the sake of safety. The Ferrari, Lambo, Maserati guys all do it to some degree. In stock form, especially when prepped for non-USA markets, Panteras were extremely capable and did not require extensive modifications. The appreciation trend is headed in that direction as you state with the Mangusta... Although, if you make a few changes and save all the original parts, what's the real harm? LS
generally my issues w/ modded panteras are really only in the cosmetics...i hate when the wrong wheels are chosen but my biggest issue is choice of side view mirrors! in my opinion the mirrors can make or break the pantera. engine mod? i love those!!!!
Thanks! Also, check out Ron's blue monster at the end of this video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJT6XydpE9U[/ame]
at least not from the Italian businessman who last had the company. I heard he's up for charges on mis-use of the investor's funds. Seems like Ford ought to step in now and buy the name for a song, and they could display their new clay model ( when they build one )with some restored DeTomasos. It's a lot easier to revive a recent marque than start a new one...Merkur anyone?
