That is a horrible photo shop, the reason that the Prototypes have those air suction things on the back is because of the Camo/Tape, they did the same thing with the 458 Mules. I have a feeling that the new car will be just stunning, none of these renderings are going to be even close.
where's the fun in that? and those predictions are not entirely 'unfounded'. they are guesstimates based on real data...NS lap times previously recorded...'known' specs of new 'Enzo' and P12...etc we know what the P4/5C ran and in which config (a wicked 6:51 with gagged breathing, massive ankle wgts, and standard slicks)...so a revised car running 6:45 with same constraints and KERS? very doable. and how about with same ballast but without air restriction where it would make est 620-650bhp? under 6:40? why not? we know what a LFA NB Package ran (a ridiculous 7:14 with 'only' 560bhp lugging around nearly 3400lbs, shifting via 'slow' Single Clutch box, rolling on 'ghetto' tires)...and now we have seen very recent 'new variant' LFA's on the NS testing...not hard to guess what the switch to a 'cup' tire optimized setup will yield in time reduction--even without a bump in power output. Rabid revving engine (despite relatively 'anemic' hp) and fantastic chassis + top class set up = that numbing 7:14...which is ten seconds faster than 660hp Enzo, MC12 on corsa's, and ~12 sec faster than 620hp Carrera GT, ~15 sec faster than 620hp GT2 RS (running super sticky MPSC), ~18 sec faster than 'punched in the face' ballistic--current F car with the hairiest ballz-- 670hp 599 GTO. impressive 'Toyota'? Quite. we know the 'OMFG, WTF, boutique quality--i'd give my left testicle to own one' Zonda R ran a less than absolutely clean lap despite the face smacking 6:47. the revisions on Zonda R 'Evo' are not exactly 'minor' or insignificant, so a time under 6:40 is very doable. So... 900+ total hp lightwgt-ish 'Enzo' and 1000+ total hp even more lightwgt-ish 'P12'...rolling on the latest and greatest rubber? under 7:10? yes. Latest, 'optimized' 1500lb downforced, steamroller Fr and RR cup tired, massaged 650hp'rd, Viper ACR went back to claim honor over 'lame' LFA....results in a stupid fast 7:12 (rumored sub 7:10 with even more 'massaging'). So, 'Enzo' and 'P12' with ridiculous hp, ridiculous grip, ridiculous aero, zero shift time--no waste acceleration USP...under 7:10? why not? under 7:00? very possible. and a LFA 'scuderia' variant with 620hp @ 9,700 rpm, 3100lb curb wgt, revised aero with healthy gains in downforce vs drag, and 'real track tires'? under 7:10? yup. under 7:00? possible.
nowadays hypercars are really fast, Pagani Huayra which was tested at Variano racetrack, beat RADICAL SR3 for almost one second.
Good one. The LFA did a 7:14 on a media day. I don't think he was shooting for a record, it wasn't an official attempt at least. An interview with them, and the LFA chief says they could go below 7:12, on the same Bridgestone Potenza RE070's. Who knows what those 'special' LFA's are capable of. I wouldn't be surprised to see the new Mac and F70 run around 7 flats. Don't forget Gumpert Apollo did a run at 7:10!
300bhp is enough for the road, really. But we like it when boundaries are pushed: ;o) http://uk.autoblog.com/2011/10/28/video-3-000bhp-250mph-red-victor-3-takes-to-the-public-road/
Hopefully this info from my dealer is more accurate than that from MC, but Geneva is most likely official launch. Sounds right as gives them time to react, if necessary, to Mac launch.
Sad that Ferrari is suddenly the tail being wagged by the McLaren dog... Having said that, it's about time the Marketing department took a back seat and let the Engineers have a proper go at innovation. Personally, I don't care if the car is delayed - as long as it delivers the goods when it's launched. Much better that than a second rate car.
Mac teaser pic released http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/09/mclaren-teases-supercar-concept-before-paris-debut.html
kinda too late to react, not like they can push out 100 more horsepower, or lower the weight substantially on a car that's been developed for the last few years.
Yes they can but would they that's the million dollar question few will ever know if they have as currently all talk no real true facts think about this put KERS and a twin turbo on the 458 v8 more than enought time to sort if they wanted too that would also drop weight, size and still have same sorta power And for all we know Ferrari developed a v8 along side the v12 anyway
Does Ferrari really have to 'react'? Even if the Enzo successor doesn't match up to McLaren's new hypercar in every way it is very clear they will have no trouble selling a single one of them that they build. Heck, they can probably sell twice as many as they build unless it turns out to be a total dog, which we all know is very unlikely. It is a great time to be a fan of supercars - and an even better time to be able to afford one with so many choices on the horizon. >8^) ER
I think it gives them time to tweak elements, rather than dramatically change, and at least they will know what the competition benchmark really is.
How do you know about the actual power of the F70 and the P12? It could well be the other way around. It could be something totally different. I bet that the new Enzo won't even bother with the Ring. Ferrari will publish a Fiorano laptime and various magazines could perhaps take some customer cars to proper race tracks. Also what about that LFA Scuderia things fantasy? Comparing cars we know nothing about yet! Oh, this is so boring...
come on now, of course we don't know 100% for a fact, but that's not the same thing as 'we know nothing about'...we know plenty. inside sources, and folks like Napolis, have spoken to the Mac folks, 1000hp is a great guesstimate..along with their target weight and performance outline (over 2g cornering on street 'legal' tires), and we know the F70 will have KERS, so even with the V12 unchanged, it will have at least 900hp total. And yes, Ferrari never really make a big deal of the Ring, but that doesn't mean it won't be heavily scrutinized by other folks by running it hard there. and the LFA 'scuderia' is not a big of a fantasy as other fantasies, seriously. revised variants (ongoing development mules)of the LFA have been seen running the Ring these past couple of months. currently, if you so desire, an LFA can be ordered 'gutted'...with all the luxury goodies deleted, thereby saving close to 200lbs!!! a NB spec LFA would dip below 3200lbs (not exactly featherweight, but 'light' considering modern safety requirments, etc, while retainining decent fit/finish and minimal 'luxury'). folks in the know also claim that there is a bit of headroom left on that amazing V10, with an acceptable tradeoff between HP and reliability curve still there (via even more detailed 'tuning' and increasing max engine speed...similar to an F1 engine, when trying to pump out more HP given frozen displacement and such). so yes, we know plenty about these cars that 'we know nothing about'. and there's nothing wrong with fun in a bit of speculation based on limited data.
Man, there are other threads with more substantial topics of conversation to suit your fancy. If this really isn't important to you, don't knock those who just do it for the fun. This whole thread is about a car that publicly doesn't really exist yet. It also been only marginally on topic for the last thirty pages or so. So what? It's been very enjoyable for me. Carry on.
Judging by the reports around the teaser pic, many do believe that it'll be the production car presented.
No, its more in the approach of how the car will be perceived and received, ie how many will be made, how its marketed and presented and certain set up tweaks. Ferrari not finished the car in terms of packaging and set up. Expect this car to be much more tunable in its set up than the Enzo.
