Does anyone know if ITBs (e.g. Megasquirt) have been done on a 360 engine? Did a search and only came up with 308s. There are a few more challenges with a later engine.
Take the intake apart.... it is about as close as you can get to itb's. If you wanted to do a true itb setup, then you would have to go to an alpha n, tps/load based engine management. I am full speed density on my turbo setup, but could just as easily do alpha n.... I also don't think you would see much gain. justin
They have a variable length tract for torque. Remove one throttle body on your car and look through the hole...2 sets of butterflies either side. ITB's are a no on a 360... Hey Justin, how's that beast of a car of yours running? What boost is at nowadays?
Thanks. Yes, quite clever but not unique - the long inlet tract provides the much needed low end torque to get the car moving, then up in the rev range the short tract delivers top end. Target weight for my build is under 900kg, so bottom end torque requirements are less than with the comparatively heavyweight 360. That inlet setup is a heavy sucker. The more weight I can shed, the better. I'll let you know how I get on as things progress.
She is out and about It's still on the 6psi setting(515 rwhp 630crank hp) as the skinny 430 wheels/tires make it pointless to turn it up.... fair enough.... If you aren't concerned with alot of creature comforts, then going to a mechanically actuated itb setup is not impossible.... just a little pain. idle alone can be a nightmare. are you f1 or 6speed clutch? justin
It's a 6-speed manual. One of the reasons for the itb idea is to reduce overall engine height. I abandoned the initial custom chassis and I've ordered an ADR3. Using the 360 engine it will be a nod to the 333SP. The rear bodywork and engine cover will be much lower than a 360 and the stock inlet tract accounts for nearly half the engine height. I figured an itb setup would provide a more compact arrangement. I'll initially just have a camel hump over it all. The itbs are just a thought at this stage, but I want to go in that direction eventually. I was just hoping to avoid 're-inventing the wheel' by finding a proven setup.
I've already put feelers out for that option, but I haven't had any joy. It may prove hard to find a complete set-up at the right price.
Holy poop dude, an ADR3 with a 360 motor will be a monster...Getting on the throttle with a mech. linkage itb setup coming out of the turns will be fun, hope you have quick hands. Now that I think about it, the 355 motor/trans with it's transverse gearbox may fit the ADR3 chassis better anyway...You could probably sell the 360 setup and end up with a 355 setup and a few bucks in hand. Most of the difference would be in the low end, which really wouldn't matter in a car that light.
Yes, I think the power/weight ratio will be good. It's not too far away from the RS version Nissan V6 with up to 450hp, so it'll be fine. You may be right about the 355 motor, but they are not plentiful Downunder. It would be a useful exercise to see what is available in the US market.
