No fresh meat for anyone this weekend!
Perez has been at the factory this week "training as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy"... why not just make the swap now, get Perez acclimatized to the Scuderia and Massa can go back to Sauber where he started in F1. Massa gets a nice car to try to maintain what is left of his career and Ferrari can "bed" Perez in before a new season begins. Let's do it! : )
Who knows, if the swap between Massa and Perez does happen, lets say even next season, Massa might improve his driving due to the less pressure.
Translation: Alonso wants a number 2, not an aspiring number 1. I have been a huge Massa supporter for a long time, but over the last couple of years, he just hasn't gotten it done. Yes, he's had some good races, but overall, IMO, he hasn't done enough to retain the seat. Mark
I think he'll just pack it up and go home or switch over to sports cars in some capacity. To me, he appears too proud to take a job at a lesser team just to stay in F1. I do not see him doing what Kovalainen is doing. Mark
More like, who would want him? Even if he came with Rob Smedley, he's still way past his 'best by:' date. There are so many eager young drivers who are still quick that I can't imagine any team wanting an older, 'experienced' driver who has lost his speed. He doesn't really offer anything, unless he could put together a huge sponsorship package.
Doesn't he have that karting track back home, that could be an option? He could help mentor up and coming racers, just a thought.
Luca wants Vettel does he? Ok fine, come 2014 let's see what happens. Vettel and Alonso would be an intergalactic peeing match and neither driver would win a WDC, but the team might rake in a WCC with them. Good for the team, bad for each driver. Both of those guys are angry hungry dogs behind the wheel and will constantly be fighting. So it sounds like the trick is to find a #2 that is both very competent but in no way will beat your #1. Keep Massa and hope F2013 is better sounds like what's going to happen.
I don't know where I said that. I said I think Massa is too proud to putter around at the back of the field for the sake of staying in F1. Mark
Nope, and they have zero problem with Alonso sucking up all the drivers points from Massa. I'm guessing Ferrari knows their F2013 is probably not going to be a whole lot better than F2012 but they really want to key-in on 2014 so that's when I expect a driver change and for Ferrari to really 'go' for it. The 2013 season is going to probably be another craps-shoot season like 2012 anyway as it seems everything that can be done aerodynamically with this formula is pretty much being done, by Mclaren and RB as the leaders of the pack and Ferrari probably don't see any reason to beat them at their own game. However, 2014 is an entirely different can of worms as engines will truly be the deciding factor of that game at least for a little while.
It's looking more and more obvious that Vettel is committed to the team for 2014. The second seat doesn't really matter for next year if that's the case. I'd gladly trade another year of Massa if VET is headed to Ferrari for '14.
Vettel would not go to Mercedes if Hamilton were there, so Vettel to Ferrari makes sense in that case.
