Very nice P12 Video. You can see a lot of the form. It's curvy and a bit P 4/5 ish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JttSo9WiiM8
Fastest production car 0-200 is certainly possible. All of the other cars you posted are not road legal production cars. Anybody can one-off a car to do some specific task better than a series production car (witness your own p4/5cm). The Veyron isn't the fastest road legal car out there, but the fastest road legal production car which is all any manufacturer is going to attempt.
This is what tuners do. The URTT tuned Lambo is totally road legal and they've made and sold hundred's of TT Lambo's. They will build a lot more TT Lambo's than Ferrari will build New Enzo's.
I was under the impression that the front wheels would have electric motors to assist initial take off.
My understanding is that the 918 does but neither the New Enzo or the P12 will on those two KERS will drive the rear wheels. Keep in mind that the petrol engine can charge the KERS batteries and the KERS motor can put out a lot more HP for less time than it can for sustained use. There will likely be several KERS settings ranging from pure KERS charging from braking only to Full Petrol charge. The P12 fully charged will be available for one lap of the Ring at high power as the New Enzo's KERS may be but neither can make full HP output just from braking lap after lap. During our 24 we were able to make about 35 HP just from recaptured braking energy for use when needed over an 8:30 lap (NS+GP lap of 8:30). I doubt they'll be able to make more without using petrol charging which is more like NOS boost than recaptured energy boost and wouldn't work lap after lap as you'd need to pit a lot more. Running our KERS as we did we got 10% more range by recapturing energy that would otherwise have been lost as brake heat. On the road there is much less braking than during racing so a lot of KERS will have to be Petrol charged.
How surprising can it be thought that hypercars don't bring out the rational in people. Nature of the beast I suppose (and I do mean beast). If you could quantify such things I'd imagine that they've brought more joy to those who lust after them than those lucky few who actually get to own them.
Yeah sure, but they don't have to go through EPA emission certification, IIHS crash testing, pass drive-by noise standards etc. so they are decidedly NOT comparable to a series production vehicle. All they have to do coming out of the tuner shop is pass smog (where applicable) and a safety inspection (where applicable).
For everyone speculating about the 0-200mph record being the goal in Ferrari's mind, sorry to disappoint you, but that isn't what they're after.
I keep coming on this thread expecting a new picture every day. Every day, I get disappointed. Somebody post something, please-besides that black rubberized rear end shot with the loose fitting "outer wear." Where did Michael M, go? Loved many of his designs. Would love to see his interpretation on the new F-70.
So a tuner car is not comparable to a series production car due to the differing safety and emissions standards. Same reason an all out race car is not comparable to a street legal car.
Please don't. I have real weakness for rears. I can't even look to long at the thread title without losing my ability to work for a few hours. And so goes my morning....
They are both road legal and in the races 0-60, 0-200, 1/4 mile that many Fanboys seem to care about, (I don't but many don't care about Ring Times which I do so all is good) UR TT Lambo's are faster than Enzo's, New Enzo's, 918's and P12's. My point is that I think Fanboys care about things that don't matter to the people who buy these particular cars. Those particular speed contests don't matter to me but the fact that road legal cars that cost much less than Hypercars are faster in these contests remains fact.
Most of the performance exists only on paper and bar stools. For most owners (and all fanboys) the specs are primarily for bragging not exploiting.
I understand you, and agree. If you're after pure numbers, it makes no sense to buy any Ferrari (or Mclaren, Porsche et. all). You can TT a used Viper or Z06 and blow any of them away for a fraction the cost in a straight line - or even the ring. I mean, TT a Viper ACR and do some other minor upgrades and it might give your P4/5CM a run, even at the ring, and for less than the Scuderia would cost that it's based on. But, that's not why one builds (or buys) one of these cars. A lot of us (enthusiasts in particular) start out as Fanboys, don't we? At least I did.
