Hey, So, it took about 10 days to garner these results in the first poll; 148 votes Mclaren; 58% Mercedes; 28% Other; 11% Out of F1; 3% Merc seems to be gaining popularity as the "rumors" appear to be gaining strength. But, what I think would be interesting is to repeat the poll and see if the constant press (and BS herein!) have changed anyone's POV.... Do you believe what you read? This one is only gonna be open for a week, so vote sooner rather than later! It will also remain "anonymous" so as to duplicate the first one - If you voted (or even didn't), please go ahead and vote again. Thanks! Cheers, Ian
Do you know something your not telling us? Nothing in F1 is 100% until we see said driver in said teams car. Ron D. is that you???
And why not?..... Gives folk the chance to have their say without actually having to say anything! Based on the limited sample size thus far, it seem those who reckon he's staying put remain about the same. BUT, the "other" people have decamped to Merc. Hmmmm..... Keep on voting - It's not like there's a right or wrong answer, and it is anonymous, which is why I guess we have the "out of F1" vote also. Cheers, Ian
I think he'll take the big bucks at Merc and throw any chances of another WDC away. No knock against Brawn and Mercedes but they are behind McLaren, Ferrari, RB and even at times equal to Lotus. Yes, things can change rapidly but it's tough to climb over 4 teams.
I will be so disappointed if LH went to Merc just because of the £££s, and that alone. I would like to think he would want to stay at Mclarean because of its history with him. And it's his best chance to win another WC.
You could well be correct..... But, I'm not at all sure - As his level (and after a few years of $10-15MM already) does $5MM -v- $20MM really make a difference? I guess it does to his management team (presumably paid a percentage), but he remains a race car driver and I suspect *may* come to his senses and take Ron's offer...... +1 And, as stupid as he appears at times I'm sure he's aware of this too. FWIW, I'd put Fauxtus well ahead of 'em too at this stage btw. The "works engine in 2014 advantage" argument has also been used as "justification", but I'm not sure about that either. I think if he jumps he'll lose a few fans as well - Fans don't like athletes "chasing the $" at the expense of competitiveness IME. [Steve?....] Cheers, Ian
That's actually not too far away from what they're talking about! "Rumor" is a 3 year deal at $15MM per + bonuses for ~$20MM per..... $60MM over 3 years should be "easily" managed into another $10MM or so per year with "his brand!"..... So, that's not just a pipe dream! Cheers, Ian
Autobild has picked up the rumours on the first page of their motorsports part too this week... however, their angle is that they claimed the Hamilton->Mercedes transfer months ago and now Eddie Jordan confirms it. Problem is, Autobild claims everything thinkable and beyond at one time or another, so now and then they're right, too
I am going to say I think he will go to Merc, I have never been a LH fan but I think he recent comments in the press seem to illustrate he is may be tired of the whole corporate McLaren control senario and wants the freedom to express himself in another environment.
Honestly, I've always felt Lewis thought he was better than any of his partners at McLaren and deserved special treatment. I think at Merc he feels he can be top dog all the time and I think he likes that. If he jumps, it will be because of the bucks and because the team will revolve around him.
It's a given, of course! Bucks, yes. Top dog? I dunno so much. Certainly not if the Schu's still around at least. What hasn't been mentioned is that he worked with Norbert until 2 years back. One assumes he has a pretty big say in the decision, and if he's OK with it maybe he's OK "under the hood" - They were together during some of Lulu's more "tempestuous" times after all. If he were that "bad", I'm sure Norbert would black ball any hiring. (Maybe he already has of course....) Cheers, Ian
