+1 on the second point. Wanna quote a source on the first?....... I'd be *amazed* if he wasn't driving F1 next season.

Would be funnier than anything if it turned out to be true though! :) Talk about here to zero in double quick time! *If* he's out I also suspect he may not be back - He'd make JV's career look like a huge success! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Hamilton will retire once and for all to follow his childhood dream of running a banking system for horses and other animals to trade with, and eventually establishing an ecomonic footprint (pun intended) on the world market.

Not at liberty to say, other than he is involved with "the books" for an F1 team of interest. I personally trust the money trail over reporter/critic sentiment.

    Question.

How is that Merc might think that LH will be worth £60m (or euroes, I've lost ****ing track now)? At Brawn, Button left because he got a (much) better offer from Mclaren (and a real team), because Merc didn't want to pay too much $. Schumachers comes in at a modest 7m and rosberg for about the same. I'm sure their salary has crept up a little, but are the Merc shareholders really that happy about hamilton coming in and getting paid double what shoe is getting? It's not like he'll be bringing in money like Alonso did (Santander effectively paying his base salary at Ferrari), or is he?

I believe (and I'm really trying to answer this as neutral as I can :)) that MB thinks they need a top driver to move forward. Nico never was that and MS is it no longer. Of the top drivers, only Hami seems to be available, so that part makes sense to me.

The thing that IMHO MB is missing is that while Hami is certainly faster than the two guys they currently have, he is probably not a development driver, which I still think they need. But Alonso and Vettel are not available, so Hami is probably as good as it gets at the moment.

Not sure of your source, however...

Michael Schumacher, at US$56M/year, is the World's Richest Athlete. His net worth is nearly US$1B. He surpassed Tiger Woods after Woods's divorce.

Rumor at this point, however it is perported that Lewis Hamilton could be looking at a 3 year, EU$100M deal with Mercedes. That's equivalent to US$43.2M/yr.

Lewis is a proven winner who is attractive to many teams willing to overlook his "issues".

As a LH supporter, I think many of his issues began after RD stepped down from managing the team (beginning with when he got with this girl). Lewis having someone like Ross Brawn in charge may not be a bad thing for him.

Who knows how to manage the likes of LH. He is a superstar and he knows it. Hollywood is full of fools like this with less talent.

That 56m/year was back in the Ferrari days I think. I'm very confident that Schumacher came in at 7m base in 2010. Surely that hasn't gone up to 56m.

Shoe and Nico as scapegoats? Plausible but I'd doubt McHam's presence at Tyrrell this year would have resulted in an appreciable difference in points.

Judging from the Merc's fundamental weakness, you'd expect they'd be fitting either Checo or Jenny glass slippers....;)

    John,
Either you know people who know people or you just know where to get the breaking news, me likey!

I never had any belief in the rumors that Nico would be leaving Merc or for that matter Michael. IMO Merc is on the cusp of greater things and I believe both drivers are showing a trait that is very rarely ever seen in F1 these days, LOYALTY!

It's difficult to believe what is/isn't happening, but I heard this from a reliable source and it doesn't seem unreasonable anyway. I believe the Michael/Lewis deal is all hinging on what Michael wants to do, so I don't know how Lewis is going to be able to announce anything in Singapore if Michael isn't saying anything.
