Are they ****ing kidding???
WTF was exactly what I thought. Really, though, more with the name than anything else. IMO this doesn't fit in the "pro" 1-digit series of cameras. No pro camera should have anything less than 1/8000 max shutter speed; this has 1/4000. Lame construction, crappy AF system, new/unproven sensor but likely not as good as the Nikon D600's, SD memory (meh)... I don't get it.
I don't think it's meant to be a PRO camera It's good value considering built in WiFi There's only so much you fit in for $2100
Clearly, but it's designated as one (xD). Meh, I'd much rather have a modern autofocus unit in my camera and have to plug it in than have a single cross type point (11 total) and have WIFI. I don't know who would opt for this over a 5D2. Maybe people who are upgrading from a recent xxD camera using SD? All my memory is CF (aside from a single SD card for my p&s).
The only good thing is the full frame. I have a 7D and i think i will keep it until i can justify a 5dmk3.
That is where I am as well. I LOVE my 7D and would only skip it for a bigger step upwards, 5D mkIII or 1Dx. NO way am I going to get the 6D. I also take modern day AF and plugging it in over an 11 point AF and wi-fi any time.
Can someone explain why it's so difficult to get good AF on full frame cameras? I see a full frame 7D being the greatest camera ever made, fast/good AF, fast fps, and it would have full frame quality.
It's only hard (expensive) to get it from Canon. Nikon doesn't handicap their less expensive cameras to protect the high end ones. D600 looks to have a great AF unit. Hell, look at the crop end The (now inexpensive) D7000 has damn good AF. 6FPS, 39 AF points (9 cross type) with 3D tracking, dual memory cards and better DR than *any* canon digital camera, all for 1200USD (MSRP).
I think they called it the 5DIII. (Except frame rate, which actually is harder to achieve with full frame, the shutter weighs more and has to travel farther.) The 6D looks like marketing sat around and asked themselves "What is trendy?" Let see... Full frame is in, GPS, hey, we could have it controlled by a smartphone! Let's price it like an Apple product to fleece the trendy people. Oh crap, with that price we need to give it a single digit. Hmm... 1 is taken, 2 sounds like second place, 3.. no, that has actual expectations of performance in Canon lore, 4... no that's bad luck in china, 5.. taken. I know, let's call it a 6! Well, that's how I think this product happened.
How about a Hasselblad H4D-60...? http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/the-most-expensive-digital-cameras-in-production.html#b
Too big and unwieldy for most non studio photogs. I'd be looking at phase one if I were a legitimate buyer. I think their IQ 180 back is the more compelling buy.
