nice but definitely it's not LMP1
True. Shouldn't judge on the basis of 3 photos that clearly don't tell half the story of this car both stylistically and technologically... Still, first impressions count and from my point of view these pics are trying to copy Ferrari's habit of somehow managing to take unflattering photos of cars that usually look way better in the flesh or when a car mag takes the pics.
looks a little bit overdesigned to me. I love how the McLaren F1 seems somewhat understated in a visual sense, but very purposeful. Love to see this one in competition clothing on the track though.
Yes, I can see a slight inconsistency: bottom line of window (right side) should be a bit more curved like left side, as per front 3/4 pic. This specific area in the 3/4 pic looks nearly like that of the 458
+1 the P12 won't age well like the F1, the F1 is pure somehow in a way that this isn't we all know that mclaren has built the P12 to be "just" ahead of Ferrari's F70 in each technical department, so that shows how amazing the F70 is going to be performance-wise ....now we only wait, so that Maranello can show up mclaren in styling
Note winglet behind front wheel and Triangle kick up at back of side window on P 4/5 and winglet behind front wheel and Triangle kick up at back of side window on RT side of P12 photo. The left side of the P12, which much be a work in progress, is different at back of side window. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
that could appear so from the angle of photo too, the back corner pulling in toward center sharply makes the bottom window line to appear to kick-up, while in side profile look more straight line Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Personally I think it shows what a great design Peter Stevens penned with the F1. I find this design too contrived, especially the rear. I have no doubt it will be a technological tour de force, the figures certainly suggest so. Apparently it has already obliterated the Silverstone lap record for production road cars, but does it 'blow my dress up'? So far, no.
That's just disappointing. I don't like the front. It looks like it is wearing a mouthguard and the headlights are too gimmicky (it is not cool that they resemble the logo). The sideintakes of the car reminds me of a KTM motorbike or something like that. At the same time you get the feeling that it not properly assembled. The rear is just a mess. The taillights are horrid and very alien-looking. The Aventador-styled exhaust is boring. You get the impression that they are trying too hard. It looks over the top - like a pimped-out version of a Lotus Elise. On the positive side of things: I like the size of the car which seems smaller than most hypercars. Somewhat reminiscent of the F1. And at least it is not as dull-looking as the MP4-12C. I'll give them that. I hope the next set of pictures will clarify some of the styling details. All in all though... Spiritual successor to the F1 and this is what they came up with - what the hell were they thinking?
I actually like it. Obviously, the color scheme will affect the look, but I appreciate the lines and the obvious engineering that has gone into the shape. I'd prefer round exhausts, but am OK with what is there. It may not be the prettiest car out there, but I deeply appreciate the fact that this is still another reason for automotive fans to be excited--and it is a great topic for discussion.
Not sure , but the car an earlier post referred to that this car is reminiscent of from the profile looks like a koenigsegg.
+1, but the same goes for 90% of new cars. Anyway, I´ve never been a fan of the looks of the old F1 either, and still it was a great car.
Not true. You can get quite a bit of power by playing with timing and A/F ratios on an N/A car. You can set the customer cars to a relatively safe setting and have the test cars be on full kill. You could go even further by filling the cars with race gas (or a high octane fuel). The gains would not be as much as upping the boost on a turbo car, but they can most definitely be done and they would be significant.
slightly higher res shot of the front 3/4. http://uncrate.com/p/2012/09/mclaren-p1-xl.jpg does it look like there's a gap/cutout on the top of the door, like an aero-bridge? you can also see a little intake on the rear fender haunch.
Ferrari pulled the Enzo successor from Paris for this? HAHAHA Mclaren must have paid them. I couldn't figure it out in the beginning, but then it came to me. The new Mac looks like a generic Mazda in the front and in many ways like the Mazda Furai in the back.
I'm tellin' ya, compare that angle to that same front 3/4 on the 458 ... the rear fender, across the fender-top, into the cockpit, is an exact copy of the 458. McLaren seeming to be a generation behind in styling, no ? EDIT : for example, http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/28/officially-official-ferrari-announces-the-458-italia/
