I think you are absolutely right. It is an Italia with Mazda smiley nose plastered on it. LOL

The Zonda looks extremely dated now next to this new McLaren supercar. Amazing!

I love the line stretching from the door to the rear quarter, looks rigid and strong. The forms are beautifully blended from the side view but in the 3/4 view you get a sense of the fender depth. Same with the front. The diffuser is exotic in every sense of the word.

I think it's well done and I'm sure in person it will have a very dynamic personality from different angles. It does not look Italian, and I think that's a positive.

Fearri has ABSOLUTELY nothing to worry about.

The rear is ok but the rest of this car from multiple angles looks bland or terrible.

Jim your car though several years older, looks WAY BETTER than this, in my humble opinion.

This the result of a car where CFD and wind tunnel results rule.

All in my humble opinion of course.

i wish we could blame it on just that, but the F1 was extensively windtunnel tested & shaped around that testing ...IMO the 12C is a better looking design (in balance), and i think it looks bland compaired to the 458!

Something about it just didn't sit right with me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. After stepping away and coming back, it's the greenhouse, specifically the windsheild. It's just too damn big, it's disproportionate to the rest of the car especially from the front view. Looks like a hot chick with a huge forehead. Fivehead. Hopefully it's just the perspecitve on the pictures...I don't care too much for the taillights, either, but other than the glaring fivehead I like it.

anxious to see what the Enzo replacement looks like. I consider the 458 a bit hit designwise

I like it and it is very McLaren.

When the McLaren F1 came out I thought it was very boring for a supercar. Interestingly when I showed one to my wife, yes a real one at a car show, she was not remotely interested and said something like: why do you like that plain Jane car?.

McLaren has always been about GO, not show, but IMO the P12 has a bit more show about it.

ps: We need to remember they are not passionate Italians, designing while drinking red wine with their arms flying around ;)

Actually, I think the Italians design while F$&k1n3. Don't see that in the McLaren.

I love it. Nicer looking than zonda, enzo, avent, and most importantly the 918 which looks like a boxster. F70 needs to be absolutely wild looking. Cant wait to read evos comparo test in few yrs of those 3!

+1. Definitely P12 is better styling exercise than the Enzo.

Remember that, if approached from an aesthetic perspective, hardly any of the cars post '90s will "age" well. The designs of the '90s were so incredibly simple (relative to today) because they were only just on the cusp of current aerodynamic technology. The F40 is a prime example of this...it is almost, to me, more of an example than the McLaren F1.

I love the design of the P1, mostly because it looks like watching a wind tunnel work. Most designers try to blend the air in the tunnel to what they think they eye wants to see otherwise; the P1 looks like they let the air do all the talking. Especially ON THAT REAR, OMG. THAT REAR IS AMAZING.

Not to beat a dead horse, but for whatever reason the pictures that McLaren released are no where as good looking as the 14 photos I saw at Pebble Beach in Monterey a month ago.

me thinks final detail work is going on...room for fudging as they see fit, according to reactions. for me, i think it's too much of a 'hot rodded' MP4...espec side view, a bit bland. some may love that family tie, but imo it's not big enough of a 'contrast' for a 1m euro machine, design wise. rear is dominated by diffuser, not surprisingly as it seems all cars these days have this focal point at the rear. however, i have no doubt that this car is a techno tour de force. Mc claims it will be the most 'exciting' and highest performing series production car ever. from the sound and design perspective, i have a feeling it will be the same as MP4 vs Italia, where the Italian car is the much more 'exciting' machine, despite what Mc claimed would be the case. can't wait to see the new 'Enzo'.... it's absurd, both Mc and Ferrari being 900+ hp street cars, but i'm thinking the 'Enzo' will be wilder looking and sounding, possibly driving too... great times for car fans however...

Lap record for a production car is 2.22 set by Plato (who can pedal a car) in an M600 (quite rapid). If its really 24 seconds faster than that, it will be under 2mins. The F1 record is 1.30...

Call me crazy about my Mazda analogy, but look at this sketch and tell me they don't look strikingly similar in their generic shapes.
