Uhhh, I like to read about the McLaren and it is an interesting subject, BUT !!!!!! WHY IN THE WORLD IS THIS THREAD IN A FORUM SPECIFIC FOR THE FERRARI SUPERCARS????
Why does this bother you (and others) so much? If you're talking to a friend about Ferrari's and they mention a Porsche, do you tell them to stop talking about Porsche's because that is not the topic of conversation? I say just go with the flow.
No I wouldn't tell them to stop, but it is the wrong analogy. Imagine you pay to go to a Porsche gathering and then you find bunch of Nissan guys there with their cars, bragging how much better their GT-Rs are than the Porsches you went there to see. There are sections on here about different subject. I did not invent them and I am sure the topics were divided for a good reason. There was an outcry to remove a topic about the F40 being an Icon from the classic sections, but it is perfectly fine to have a McLaren thread in the 288/F40/F50/Enzo thread? It is enough that the thread about the upcoming Enzo replacement is brutally highjacked over and over again. I can understand to a degree, that since the new McL will be the direct competition of the F70 and since there is no new pictures or info to discuss about the new F hypercar that thread has become sort of a general discussion. But this thread is about as out of place as it could possibly be.
If they were obnoxious or annoying I would simply go find another group of people that were more to my liking and hang out with them. I wouldn't feel the need to argue with the GTR guys and kick them out of the club. I say live and let live.
You don't get it where I'm coming from. The inconsistency. OMG "F40 an icon" in the classic section - blasphemy. New McLaren thread in F-supercars section - yeah OK. On Ferrari specific site in the F1 section we have a Massa sucks thread, which is fine by everyone, but bashing Lulu? - Throwing fits, anger, name calling.... I am not really bugged too much over it, it just puzzles me, just like what you are saying. So if a bunch of Nissan guys want to crash a Porsche event, people should just go to another event, instead of not letting their gathering been crashed? Imagine this with a wedding. "Oh, folks, we have some horny guys here that want free booze and maybe to get laid tonight. They don't really bother anyone, there is plenty of drinks for everyone and I guess the ladies like them anyway. So thank you for coming, but we are going to postpone the wedding for another date when no one will be there uninvited." That would be just hilarious.
Why is this thread even in the Ferrari Supercar thread? What an insult to history... Mods please move this to a more appropriate area.
I agree. I even think threads about lesser Ferraris have been yanked from this forum in the past. This thread should be merged with this thread... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19010
I just showed my wife the Mac P1 and she told me it looked like a Nike shoe. Honestly i think that's where they got their design inspiration.
Thinking about those tail lights, surely they won't be legal in America? Remember the first Maserati Grandsport and how they had to redesign the tail lights. The original were thin and elegant. Had to be replaced with what looked like 1970's Volvo designs. Pete
I believe the problem with the looks of the car is not where the inspiration came from, but rather there was no inspiration at all.
Indeed. Discussions of the newest Ferrari GTO are not allowed in this section, but apparently the new 458-inspired McLaren is welcomed. wassup widdat ??
Love the thread & its contents, but the Sheriff just rode into town and I believe this thread's days in this section are numbered...
Funny thing, last night at a light I was behing a 90's firebird and it hit me. Maclaren must have hired the pontiac crew to design the P12, the rear end is an exagerated version of the firebird esp at night with lights on. Hope they don't do an suv, aztek?
That it's not like ANYTHING else out there. They took a risk. It looks very clinical, yet organic. My friend said "It's very 2015" and I think he is right. This design is very ahead of its time and (I think) when you see it in real life, your jaw will drop. It isn't beautiful and it isn't supposed to be: beauty is simplicity. What this car is, is wild. I may have Ferrari tattoed on my soul, but I can still appriciate other cars.
You must have a real hard on or both GM and McLaren considering your posts both on the C7 section and now on the McLaren. It's funny you speak about rear ends, as that is all you would see of McLaren.
Isn't this just the "Design Study" a.k.a. concept version of the car? I'm sure the production model will be significantly toned down to match US and EU codes.
Very ugly to me, so much for there being more emotion in this design, it just looks like a modified MP4 12C to me, which I guess is essentially what it is.
I giess if you dont like the messege try shoot the messenger. I am hardly alone in crticising the looks of the P12, I am guessing a poll here would be 8-1 against. On the evo site it is even worse. But lest reserve final judgemnt till we see one in the flesh. Until then we can say that good design is self evident. People love a Dino, 308 and more recently the 458. Not every ferrari design is great, witness the cali or the F12. As to having a Hard on for Maclaren, i think any seacrch of threads will indicate that more than most i wish them well, and think they may give ferrari and all its BS some comeuppance. That they have not, and in fact not even the home town english mags rate the Mp4 above the 458 is due not to technical ability or specs, but to execution I put in quotes below my comment on the other p12 thread which based on your extensive comment there I know you read. I think my last sentance encapsulates it. " maybe instead of thinking of the P12 as an expensive MP4 maybe we should considder the MP4 to be a bragain P12 F50 etc. Imagine a MP4 that looked better and with a bit of a more booseted engine, both easy to do, so you can see where the MP4 is headintg once the p12 stakes out the hight ground. I mean if a P12 hasa MP4 based motor, why try match the 458 in performance with the MP4 when you can totaly blow it away by going partway to a P12. What maclaren lacks is stylists with style, and engineers who get the passion part. Technicaly they are already ahead of the pack. " As to my vette comments. I see from your posts you are somehow, or claim to be involved in detroit products, I will comment there. Constructive criticism if listened to leads to better products, ignoring comments that may be valid is probably what led Deroit to its current malaise. As to seeing the rear end. A dragster will blow them all away in a straight line, but there is so much more to enjoying a street exotic than that. Design, tactility, feel and emotion are all key, these things do not cost more money to put in a car, they are the result of understanding and inspiration. Even the Mx5 has the dynamic tactile part in spades. The Maclren engineers could not understand why the 458 was rated by everyone better than the Mp4 when on paper the MP4 was better in each "objective" measurement. When you can understand that, you will understand why ferrari despite its flaws is on top, and why a vette on paper is great, but stuck in Bang for the buck excuses reagrdless of how fast a Zr1 is on paper.
If that's what it looks like, it's rather clumsy. I can see the "real race car" bit and that's interesting --- but not necessarily attractive. The original F1 blows this one away IMO. Someone here just couldn't stop and put down his computer stylus. If it's true its a modified KERS version of their existing twin turbo V-8, it's disappointing for a car 2.5 times more expensive than a 12C -- which it looks too much like (or maybe that was the point?). In any event, I'm confused to what they are doing here and why... and that ain't good. If anything, they've made me love the F1 even more. BTW McLaren: Dodge has already done the LED lights this way on the tail -- and we don't like it! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
