What do you think ? So far iam less than impressed... My kids hate it.... Apples seems to be now giving google market shares
I'm 50/50 with it thus far. I'm sure my opinion will change when I upgrade tomorrow from my iPhone 4 to my new iPhone 5.
Hold up on the upgrade if you use the maps, the new one from Apple is half-baked and at best a Beta http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57517080-37/where-are-we-apples-messy-maps/
The Maps are crap be using my nexus 7 even more now... You tube that's rubbed kids up the wrong way most... Chrome still far better for internet..... text editin issues etc Apple seem to have lost there way..
Buggy...erased my bookmarks at one point and I had to shut down to get them back. WTF with the YouTube app? I have to now download the iPhone version for my iPad and it just sucks compared to the previous app. Not impressed...
I would have to agree after upgrading to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 on September 19th. I'd at least wait until they release iOS 6.1.
I upgraded and regret so far, but it has only been a day. Seems this was a "dump google stuff" upgrade. Problem is I use google stuff. I have a 4s and the phone seems sluggish. Maybe it will improve with time, or maybe it need the 5 in order to run properly. Swiss time will tell.
I have a 4 and cannot get out until 12/8/12 without paying an additional $250 early upgrade fee, on top of the $199 plus $36 network fee. I do not see the value in it. I won't put iOS6 on my phone as it is too slow. I put it on my wife's 4S and she seems to like it so far... I'm just waiting to see in a few weeks which of my apps need to be updated and all of sudden require iOS6. My wife's old 3G had that issue which forced her to buy the 4S. Anyone know how to get someone at AT&T on the phone or at the store to waive the b.s. $36 network fee? I hate the very weak and spotty network but only stay because we have the old granfathered unlimited data plans and rollover minutes.
I don't plan to EVER update the OS on my 4S. It's just a phone as far as I'm concerned, and does 100% of what I need it to do. Don't "fix" what's not broken. Jedi
in my experience it's apparent that software updates make you have to upgrade the hardware. This is seen from iOS6 & more apparent with their laptops. Much more pronounced that other OS's. Forced obsolescence to me.
Positives - Siri is good, better than I expected - the OS seems more responsive than my last build - Wireless synch...finally Negatives - WTF is up with the VIP email? Why can't I delete it? - Maps are pretty bad, thankfully Google maps can be pinned to the desktop - Why did they bury my 'wireless hotspot' toggle on/off? Why is settings cluttered with junk?
Defiantly worst iOS so far, can't wait for google maps app with street view. Made finding new addresses easy when looking for driveways or doors to buildings. Although I know somebody has already installed an old version of google maps on iPhone 5 just a few days after launch. Although this was on a iPhone which had been jailbroken. I'm sure everything will improve in time, but if you are reading this and wondering if you should update. Don't do it just wait until something significant is released.
Based on the feedback here and online articles I read I decided to not do this, even with the phone prompting me once. Well my wife decided to do the upgrade today and her phone crashed and everything is now gone. She has tried to restore from backup to no avail! When the kids were put to bed she tried to call Apple but closed for the night. So a very distraught woman in bed tonight seeming to lost all the pictures (mostly of the kids), messages, etc etc etc. Not pleased, avoiding the upgrade. Chris
Perhaps I am in the minority in that I like the upgrade. And I'm not Apple "fanboy". I also like the new maps. I haven't had any trouble with directions.. And I think the integration with Yelp is a huge plus with restaraunts, which I use a lot. I think people are really going out of their way to take shots at Apple. I guess it comes with the territory when you're the biggest company in the world (in terms of market cap). It's ok with me I guess... competition always makes for better products for us.
My wife called Apple, they helped her restore everything and all is well now. It did make for an anxiety filled 12 hours though!!! So for now I'm evading the update, wait for next especially when maps are up to Steve Jobs standards. Chris
I've got an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 I updated the Software on the iPad to the latest, but not the iPhone. Massive disappointment. I have now lost YouTube capability to view on AppleTV from my iPad but it still works from my iPhone. Jasmine however, still enables me to watch YouTube videos on Apple TV. Obviously if you don't use Apple TV and Maps and some of the other Applications your usability may not be affected. However, I am very disappointed and truly wish I had not updated my iPad. I will not be updating my iPhone Software.
