I noticed that the DD got an "aerosol overhaul" in the engine bay. All the hose clamps are painted black along with the exaust cans. How do you justify the pricing of any of his cars???

Correct Joe, 2 things bother me about the listing with this car. A complete livery change on interior and exterior is a HUGE hit to the value of any collectable car, especially a Countach. It's fine if your car is a driver and you want certain colors you like, go for it, but if your asking close to a QUARTER MILLION dollars for a car and your talking about how rare and valuable it is and how so much money was just spent on restoration and service work. Unoriginal exterior and interior color is a death blow to value. Second thing that bothered me with this seller was, how can you say "First one ever offered on eBay Motors" ? So I assume you have been monitering Countach listings on eBay for the past 20 years so as to feel comfortable in that claim. Not that it has anything to do with the quality or lack there of, of this vehicle. But I think it says a lot about the seller and his unsubstantiated claims.

    Peter,

When you make a generalized statement such as you thought "they" were higher, its almost as if you think that condition, mileage etc has no bearing on values and "they" (all DD QVs) are all the same value! This is exactly the problem with the current Countach market!

Always remember, the current market is all about the RANGE of values, and the range can be very very significant. One might be worth 225k, and another might be worth 125k.

Same is true for any variant, model, & make of any classic or sports car anywhere.

I cant blame sellers for 'reaching' for top dollar with cars that don't warrant it, but, in this very educated market, that's not going to be very achievable.

As the saying goes: "All things are not equal".

I'm surprised he even has a picture of the engine bay on this one. Take a look at the other car he has listed on eBay, not one picture of the engine bay. Can you imagine trying to sell a Countach on the internet with NO PICTURES of the motor ! We can only imagine what it looks like in there ? He has a spray bombed engine compartment on a $225,000.00 Countach. This is what happens when certain vehicle prices start to go higher. Countach purists, get used to it and you ain't seen nothing yet.

by the looks of it the drivers side rocker needs some work. Possibly passenger. I say paint, motor, interior and then ask top dollar.....more money than the blue dd (that car has not been painted or interior done, it has its patina).

Peter, I know you mean well.

But ask yourself these 2 questions:

    - What constitutes a premium car?
    - Is this car under discussion one of them?

Well, it shouldn't happen, but, I understand what you mean.

I think what has happened to the Countach market has more to do with the cast of characters involved with them than overall increasing classic car values. But, every dark cloud has a silver lining, and there is much knowledge being shared, exchanged & learned and this ultimately will make for a healthy market.

I think there were 2 different episodes where white Countachs were used one in chase scene where the car swapped from qv to 5000s then another with 2 young guys and a dukes of hazzard type horn.

I was thinking that. If (and if) the job close up is well done and the leather and paint are Countach correct, then the affect on the car value is minimum. A properly white/white redone is red / tan is not cause for slashing its value. I saw some 400 redone with non lambo paint and non original type leather that claimed LP400 prices.

That sais I think the center tunnel leather has what appears to be bubbles? Is that water or a defect?

I am confused. Is not that car starting at $185K no reserve?.

Ok, here the deal. When I first saw the auction it had a 185k reserve not met. Now it has 185k. Reserve was removed. One bid and the car is sold.
185k for a QV DD in good condition. The word is good... not excellent, not perfect, not no needs.
    Is it worth it?

Given the lack of carbureted cars out there and the rarity of the DD is the US, that car is in the running if we trust the numbers of the few last DD sold.
It is does not sell here in the US due to the economy, it should sell abroad. Euro is back at $1.30 and DDs over there are way more (and dont sell).
IMO, if someone is bothered by the paint and the interior, that should be a $30K-40K job for something quite decent and new. Who's got the lates US number on a Paretelli interior and a very nice paint job (not concourse 100 pts) ?
All that car needs to show is that the engine has been gone thru less than 10K km ago and that all mechanicals got taken care off. I recall extensive work was done on it in prior sales in 2006.

I went to GA to check it out from the last owner and I was told it has not had a engine rebuild or anything major because he felt that it ran good to him (if it is not broke don’t fix it) in fact when I got to GA to inspect it, It was not running right. We had to remove the cap and mix parts from an old cap to get it to where we could test drive it. All this after I was told he rebuilds the distributer every year?
Basically no major service has been done in years. I am not trying to hurt the sale of this car but Truthful information is what everyone on here deserves.

If you can get it under 200k, why bother with paint and interior now, unless someone has money to burn?
Have an engine out service or a rebuild. Just enjoy the damn car. Paint it when it's time.

This is a very scary Countach Market. There needs to be more transparency and less horse sh*t.

Tony Rienzi, how could you not have known that the original color of this Countach was white? If the car was as described in your ebay ad why let it go for $75K?????

I stand corrected. I thought you sold the red for $75K.

My question however still stands. How did you not know that the original color on your 87 Countach 5000QV was white on white?
