Apologies if I came off rude too you. Someone who owns a Boxer has superb taste. My only argument is to wait and see the cars in person before a rush to judgement. Regarding the MP4 vs. the 458 debate, I own an MP4 and a 430 and as was in line for a 458. After driving the MP4, I found many things to like, that doesn't mean I think anything less of the 458.

Regarding the C7, I am not involved with it in any way, though I know a feel people who know quite a bit about it, here in the C7 Forum, I am hoping for the best, I don't know if you have driven a Z06 or ZR1, but they are terrific cars with the exception IMHO of the interior parts. Hoping the C7 will be a step up, as the Corvette has been a profitable Icon for GM during the good and bad times. One last question, do you have photos of your BB posted, it is one of my all time favorites.

I agree lest with your points, we are actualy on the same page.

I did not like the Zonda or konigsegg in pics but in the flesh they do have their appeal. That being said pretty much everyone liked the looks of the 458 from the first pic and in the flesh it did not dissapoint. If you own a 430 and a MP4 I can see prefering the Maclren, but these days the comparison is to the 458.

If I were to buy it would probably maclaren. 1. for use a more subdued car is always better 2.You dont have to deal with ferrari dealers, which is a big plus. 3. There is not the negative stigma to ownership. 4. it is far more economical to track from what I hear. But 5. as a beautiful object of lust and desire the 458 just ticks more boxes.

The p12 may well be better than the enzo sucessor because even with its overwrought uninspired design the ferrari may well be a dud dersign wise too, they only seem to hit it 1 out of four tries.

As for the C7 I too hope for the best, but what I fear is we will see is an evolved C6 with better interior, and the vette can and should be so much more, but for recurrent GM malaise. Maclaren at least tries to be the best and goes for it, they will learn and improve. Currently they Maclaren miss the subjective aspects, you cant spec the unspecable. Gm though never misses an opportunity to cut something somewhere and try fool the custiomer. Working for them in the vette division must be incrediably frustrating and heartbreaking.

I actualy think GM resents the vette, it does not fit into a nice plan or MBA chart, and its designed by people who are "passionate" its whole continued sucess probably is very threatening to the logical suits. Frankly its just ridiculous that to develop a great car requires such internal fighting and wrangling, not to mention compromise.

The Germans are focused onend product, hence they are coveted throught the world, are profitable despite high labor costs, did not need to be bailed out, and they continue to grow market share everywhere.

i have posted a few pics of my boxer in the boxer section about a year ago.

I agree that the no center seating is a big let down. The original is a masterpiece of automotive packaging that may never be duplicated again.

When I said "we", it's the reaction from most people about the Dodge's rear (highly tacky) LED taillights.

Thank you for this post, we are on the same page, I agree about the 458 and MP4 being comparable. I meant the 430 as a point of how terrific I think that Ferraris feel and sound, no question the 458 is a giant leap forward.

If you have a chance and go to the C7 section of the Corvetteforum.com you will see some new information on the C7 which I also posted in our own American Muscle Section, I think we will be in for a big surprise on the C7. Not a evolved C6 from what I gather.

    Regardless, nice chatting with you.

Oh one last thing so the McLaren P12 does not get derailed on this thread, I have seen 14 pictures of the actual production car, the 3 that were posted although are the car, they are terrible compared to the real thing.

I like it, but what I would really want are the revised nose and vented front fenders from the HS model. Like a Stradale/Scuderia, this is how the fascia should have been in the first place. Much more exciting than the original.

Then again, when you are standing over the original, you don't see as much of the front of the nose as you can in photos taken 18" off the ground... same for the 458 really, whose "eyelid" vents around the lights are visually unappealing in photos, yet when looking at one in person, the overall shape of the car takes your attention away from that.

There are a few people on the mclaren forum who believe that the pictures released by mclaren were taken with a fish eye in order to hide some details..

That is Phenomenal, that was my favorite car growing up, while other kids liked the Countach, the boxer always stood out. I had a Cover of Road &Track with a Black one in the fog that was up on my wall. Enjoy it in good health.

Thanks for the good wishes. bOXER Is a lot of fun, but does require a lot of TLC to stay on form. Tried the Countach, it just didnt work for me. So much for teenage dreams.
Lest you think I am an italianophile below is my British car. So yes i would go for the Macca too.

I agree. Porche makes some great cars, and Ferrari seems to be hitting a new peak. But Maclaren is great for many reasons not least because it does not have the negative poseur social stigma of ferrari or porche. So far unless you are an enthusiast no one even knows what it is, yet the tech is past ferrari, I hope they do well.

For me these days, the car has to be trackable, because even my E46 Bmw has more go brakes etc than can unreasonably be deployed on the street. Although I suppose a R8 makes a good daily as in a way can the Macca, it is relatively unobtrusive and based on articles very comfortable. My Lotus is still streetable, but spends 60-70% of its time on the track, usualy hunting much more powerful vettes.

The Boxer on the highway only gets into its groove and settles down above 90, which is where the motor in 5th is on cam and the suspension smooths out. But all that torque means blasting out of bends, with the engine on song, on a twisty fast sweeper road is just so much fun. Kids love to go to school in it too, but as a daily its not even close, and on the track you run out of brakes pretty quick. So its a limited use thing.

I'll go to the Macca dealer and do a test drive, then perhaps I can make more educated comments.

If I had the space I would have more, or maybe I should boot the Boxer Beemer and lotus simplify my life and get a Macca, but I am not sure it would cover all the bases?

That last sentence is not a bad idea, but I think you would always miss the feel of a Ferrari, any time your out here on this side of the Coast, you can come to my place and drive my McLaren. I had a loaner from McLaren for two days and it changed my entire opinion on the car. Especially in the flesh with certain colors. I still think the 458 is prettier though. Also the Thrust of the McLaren cannot be explained, I really cannot believe how fast it accelerates. I have a video of my F430 and the Loaner McLaren. Unfortunately, it is telling me the Video is to large to Post.

Love the wheels and the orange details.

Hi Bob, I have a terrific detailer out here that spent from 9 AM to 3 PM going through the car and later I had 3M Tape put on the car. The car is specced identical to Jenson Button's car with the exception is Jenson has Red Calipers and Sticthcing and mine is Orange. I was not sure about the Forged Super Lite Wheels in Black, but I got them anyway, I wanted to contrast it with a Aluminium Finish, but so far I am happy. The Wheels was the only item I was not sure on the color. The car has tons of Carbon options from Inside to Engine Bay.
