Can people share what they are doing for home simulators. Not toys...simulators? Are home simulators a joke and pro CXC simulators the only game in town? Thanks!

    I'm lazy.

I just got an Alienware laptop and didn't need to think about it. Still don't think about it. Totally reliable. I guess that makes it a win.

    hey man,

you're welcome to check out my CXC sims any time. I'm at Santa Monica Airport.

to answer your question, put them on a continuum, with full motion sims on one side and a pedal and wheel set from Best Buy on the opposite end. you can still get something out of anything on the continuum, but the closer you are to the full motion/immersible side, the better off you are.

and before anyone says "they're only good for learning tracks"...they're not. use them as a training tool for your own driver development, or racecraft, and they're a phenomenal tool. but like any tool you get out of them what you put in :)

Hello FBB, my business is actually making sim pedals for simracers. :D I supply my pedals to CXC and many other sim cockpits out there. I make them in a GT (overhang) version and a floor mount F1 version. I have many pro racers in Nascar, GT, Indycar and F1 that use my pedals. Dale Jr is one of my best customers. He has helped me out many times with feedback and spreading good will in the sim and racing community. I use a load cell in the design so it is a true pressure sensitive brake pedal. ;) I am just about to release my new gated shifter as well. :) I don't want to get into trouble here for posting up too much since I am not a sponsor here. So if you would like more info, just send me an email to [email protected] and I can give you info not only on my products but also for many others across the board. Thanks! Todd

Just in case you do not recognize my name, I have a 348 and am in the 348/355 section alot. ;)

Lastly, I am also happy to work with someone if they want to have their sim pedals replicate the pedals in their real car (race or street).

Here's another endorsement for Todd's pedals.

I bought mine almost five years ago and have been very pleased after trying them on an iRacing demo rig in 2008.

I own and have sold many G25/27 sets with the Perfect Pedal installed, a hydraulic load cell substitution for the brake pedal.

There's all kinds of good stuff out there. Still not sold on motion platforms... And I have access to two Cruden Hexapods across the street from my place...

Hello Peter, thanks for the nice words! I may as well tell you here that I will be offering a hydraulic upgrade unit for my pedals shortly. It will be a full hydraulic unit that will operate on pressure, not a pot or load cell. You will be able to install it into my current pedal design. Thanks! Todd

    Logitech g25 wheel and pedals
home built wood race frame measured to mimic the seating position of my 355 with seat out of a lumina minivan (folds into a coffee table when not in use complete with cupholders)
    100" screen - optoma hd70 projector
home built amd phenomII 955be quad core, 4gb ram, nvidia gtx480 1.5gb
    Win7 ultimate
    Iracing

    Grand prix legends
Netkar, gtr2, racing legends (don't really mess with these any longer)

Ps3 with gt5, f1 (whatever the first one for ps3 was), ferrari trofeo pirelli

Probably have about a grand in the PC (also has non sim related hardware in it), g25 was $250 when I bought it 6 years ago, projector was $700 5 years ago, screen home made, seat out of a minivan my sister wrecked, frame made from scrap wood and about $20 worth of screws and brackets.

Funny you ask as I just built the frame over the weekend using leftover 2x4's from my carport project. I'll snap some pics if interested. I still need to adjust the pedal height and shifter location slightly, but it's good enough for now and much sturdier than the folding table I used before.

Anybody that says they're only useful for learning tracks hasn't put the time in to learn to use it. It took me about 2 years to get good at it, but that was starting from scratch with no real track experience other than karts. Everything I learned was directly translatable to the track, and real life is much easier as you have more information to work with.

Don't expect to buy a high dollar rig, hop in and instantly be turning laps like a real car, it takes a lot of adjustment. Luckily, going the other way doesn't. You do have to be mindful not to learn 'bad habits' in a sim as you can get away with doing some things you can't in real life. A big thing in the grand prix legends days was to run heavily rearward brake bias and ride the throttle while braking to in essence give an infinitely variable brake bias. It worked in the sim, but if you tried that in real life, your brakes would be toast in short order.

^^^ I agree. however in my experience the people who hop in to one of my sims and get up to speed very quickly are....professional racing drivers!

so it turns out that adaptation is also something that a sim can teach you; and like most skills, professionals do it best. how 'bout that :)

Currently use a G25 but pedals are getting slightly ropey and my little brother destroyed my gearbox.

Next year I'm planning to buy the Z Roso steering wheel and mount it on my G25, if not use the EFFI 7000 force feed back system (I find that lately, on some tracks the motor in the g25 overheats and reduces FFB slightly. It's repairable by adding a small fan though so it's an option since it'll be completely taken apart).

I love the EFFI F1 pedals but are very pricey at 1350 euro. Todds pedals look fantastic and price is MUCH better.

Maybe in 2014 once I live in Europe again I want a Dbox motion system :).

I just bought a new 32 inch LED monitor. Sweet!

I also have a G25 bolted to a seat that was owned by a friend and mimics a formula car position. It is perfect for me but not easily adjustable (which is why he got rid of it).

iRacing is almost like the real thing...

So, did you set up an arcade at the airport using CXC simulators? That sounds cool. :)

    All the best,
