I recall that Road & Track magazine circa 1976 here in the USA had a photo of a pine green QP3 and it looked very nice.

I agree. I'm not big on silver on any car -- not even on a mid-1960's Porsche. A dark silver trending towards grey metallic I could see on a QP3.

Absolutely agree, that would really suit the car well!

    But William,

how can you possibly drive when the steering wheel is on the wrong side? ;-)

    Seriously though, she looks fabulous!

Interesting point. I drive a LHD in UK with no issues. The only problem is overtaking on the narrow roads but that is not much of a problem. Around town it is fine. I have also driven a RHD in Europe -- same issues. Although I did jump into the passenger seat of my wife's car yesterday after driving the Maserati around and had a good laugh as I had to get out and go around again.

Thanks very much. It does look good. With the XWXs on it and the new shocks it does seem a bit high but I am waiting to see how much the suspension settles. There are a few creaks and groans but getting better every drive.I am putting the Ohlins system on the 81 for sure.

    A few niggles yet:

-The new free flow rad and hoses etc have resulted in a minor leak after parking. I am wondering if the system is a tiny bit overfull? as the drip appears to be from the overflow pipe attached to the small tank on the side of the fender wall. All the rubber joins are dry.
-The little light in the engine bay is not operating
-I am not sure that the dash lights are working in the instrument binnacle - that was changed remember
-The first shop lost the inside stone guard and the replacement is not a perfect fit and can be seen a little bit under the front. Small point but it could be trued up.
-I think the exhaust pipes are not perfectly parallel - again a little fix
-The wood on the dash and by the gear lever was not done with the doors as it was soooo much better but now I would do it at some point
-The original radio is in place and was working when it went off but not now.
-Lamp warning - the lamp out warning is an intermittent on and off which points to a connection somewhere as all the bulbs work
    - There is carpet missing from the little floor cubby in the boot/trunk. Can't be seen but who knows where it got to? Anyway, it will need a small piece of carpet fitted

I am sure I will add a few more little things to the list.

My under bonnet light doesn't work either.

The radio fuse is under the shifter panel.

The binnacle lights (and shifter too) may indicate a bad conection on one of the 4 molex connectors under the binnacle itself - mine started showing problems when I was in there fixing the speedometer problems, it wouldn't light up at all, then light, then not. I'm pretty sure it's a poor contact/connection.

The exhaust pipes are on rubber hangers, not a whole lot to do except make sure both are new and have the same elasticity.

I'd like to find a new rear "wall" - the carpeted piece that covers the fuel tank in the boot. Let me know if you find someone who can help you with your carpet, I'll ask them about mine too.

Hi I am pretty sure that the radio in the 1981 is a replacement as it is a faceplate off with single cd. I need to get the right radio. While I am looking for this I may put in a retro style new radio that works for this application.

What do you suggest? ALSO what is the original radio for the car?

William, I'll have a look in my Khamsin, it was built in the same year, and has the original radio it was delivered with.
I bought my first home cd-player in 1980, I doubt much that any such devices were available for cars then already!

That would be great as my car is an original import to SA. So it should be the same. I had a 79 Caddilac Seville (great car on a Nova frame) and it had an 8 Track so I am pretty sure this one will be an early cassette or just AM/FM SW

    Thanks

    Wm

    William,

The unit is a Sharp Z 3210 Nk1, an AM/FM radio with auto-reverse casette player.

Lucky, I still have some tapes:)

Btw, you mention the Seville built on a Nova frame: wasn't the Seville front wheel drive? I used to like the model with the straight-up rear window, one of the better US car-efforts.

I will look at the Sharp although pretty sure that the QPIII were Blaupunkt.

Seville, yes one of the nicest cars I have had from the US side. I got a great one older when I was getting married back in the day. Black. It was FWD. I saved a huge amount of money when I learned it was basically a NOVA frame. Many of the parts were identical but branded Chevy were $39.99 and Cadillac were $239.99. Maybe I shouldnt have but the self levelling suspension never worked in mine and was too much to go through completely so I put NOVA shock and springs in and the bolted perfectly with no adjustment. Anyway, a different time and a different thread!
