They have taken some large steps forward in regard to over all weight reduction, but that is a key factor here, as the KERS system adds a great deal of weight. Without the KERS system the new car would a good bit less than the Enzo.
So all we get to see is one component and not enough figures to allow any meaningful conclusions. Oh well... Maybe next year. I suppose the good news here is that ferrari have not yet locked down the performance package which means it has a better chance of being worth the wait!
Unlikely. There are several problems with Carbon Fibre rims - sure they offer some weight saving, but they have a propensity to shatter without warning and spokes can be destroyed (depending on their width and thickness) by large stones hitting them at speed. At this point in time other rims are far more desirable. Thats the reason Pagani don't use them, despite their considerable experience and knowledge in regards to CF....
I don´t like the bulbous windscreen and the rounded cutout for the doors in the roof; this and the thick C pillar makes me think that it´s going to look quite similar to the Enzo. I expected something more radical, with a glass roof and things like that. If someone has seen the finished car, please correct me if I´m wrong.
Glass roof would be a bad idea as it would increase weight at the worst possible area. Also it would create all sort of structural issues. Butterfly doors are also a must, as long as they do not increase weight.
Yep, but it looks good, and if it´s not so heavy if it´s made with plastic. Anyway, I hope it´s not another Enzo. I never liked it and even if it was the opposite, the world needs something new to look at.
This car is primarily going to be about the go. Looks should be stunning but not at the expense of performance. Anyway, let's wait half a year and we shall see the finished article.
If they were worried only about raw performance, they wouldn´t be using a big V12. But anyway, I think that looks and function can (and in a Ferrari MUST) go together. Right now, without knowing the specs, etc, I´m not asking for something pretty, but something that doesn´t look like old news. But you´re right, let´s wait and see.

You must have seen the prototype in this thread, it was obvious that the cockpit cell was staying. With that starting point I still think they could do something pretty, new and distinct to the Enzo, now let's see if they have the will to do so
Dream on. The Enzo tub was very heavy. We took a lot of weight out of it in Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina. There's no way the overall car will be lighter than P12 with a V12.
Nope. Firstly you don't use glass. You use Policarbonate which is lighter than CF. On Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina we cut the entire top of the Enzo tub off and replaced it with a policarbonate structure that was lighter and stronger than the Enzo tub and incorporated a full FIA spec. roll cage made out of high tech alloy. Our tub was also a lot stiffer than the enzo tub.
If that were true it wouldn't have a V12 and it would have a wing like P12's. This car will be Luca's vision of Ferrari's Heritage.
As I said in an earlier post, it WILL have heavy Enzo DNA which to me is a worry purely from an aesthetic standpoint.
Making a car lighter than an Enzo isn't something that's hard to do. Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina weighs 2650lb. Making something lighter than the 12C with KERS as the P12 is impressive.
Here the P12 next to the 918. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141775570&postcount=126 The P12 is VERY compact and now comparing it to the Enzo tub we know which of the three will be smaller.
the F70 tub there looks to be fairly compact really IMO ...it may not be P12 small, but then it will be needing to carry the added structural support of that not feather-weight V12+KERS mass in the aft
IMO it's the pretty much the size of the Enzo's which as you say isn't surprising as it will also have a V12.
it's hard to tell from the pictures angle, but it looks to be designed to have a rear sub-frame (like enzo and mc12) i guess they aren't going the F50 route and suspending the rear suspension/bodywork off of the drivetrain? that V12+KERS is pretty hefty, i'll be really, really surprised if the car came in under 3000lbs!
