Mclaren bring a P1 to the show, Ferrari bring a tub :( I recon the Ferari designers are working over time adding things to the car. I am so looking forward to seeing what comes through the gates of Maranello. I have no doubt it will be special never the less.
I think Mclaren will also enter one of its models in the Le mans, laying its cards on the table. I wish Ferrari would to.

Going back to that R&T top speed test, Mario commented that the F1 was an aerodynamic disaster, very unstable near its top speed. By comparison he said that he would have given the Ferrari 550 Maranello (which did 192 or 194 - can't remember) a go even in the rain, because it was aerodynamically planted. Granted it was going 20+ mph slower than the F1, but apparently Ferrari had its aero pretty well thought out back then. Hopefully McLaren has done a better job this time around.

I don't know what you intend about generations, anyway the it was enough a 2 generations older F40 to lap faster than a F1 on track

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcRY15toko0[/ame]

The handling was not the strong point of the F1
Compared to the F40, the F1 seems a minibus ....

I remember reading a quote where McLaren were looking for test drivers to go to vmax, they got through 8 people that all refused to go past 210... HA HA!

I'm sure the McLaren of today have their heads screwed on, I just hope Ron and his marketing team can wind their necks in and let the car do the talking, that way they won't have the deflation that followed the 12c launch... Then the F70 can come and blow it away.

I can't help but wonder if Luca spent any time at the McLaren stand? It'd be interesting to hear his thoughts on the P1.

Wow. Fantastic looking carbon fiber driving cell. The large rectangular block in front must be the frontal crash zone.
And at the rear, the rectangular block at the base look very robust and impressive too.

No the crash structures will be bolted on to this tub, otherwise the tub would be a write-off in a crash

You don´t get it. Now that Bugatti has the max. top speed and power, downforce is the new braggin´rights criteria.

I just hope they do it right. In race cars things get ugly very quickly when they suddenly loose downforce; and that wouldn´t be cool at all in open roads.

Rory Byrne involvement has been suggested for some time in various forums (F1-related, expecially). I even mentioned it here:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141745952&postcount=1554

Anyone following F1 since the 80's cannot but rate Byrne as probably the best and most innovative designer as well as (without checking my facts) the winningest. Wonder if they'll name the car after him.

And I'm still sticking with my prediction that this car will have F1-style pneumatic valve springs.

F1 style perhaps. Multiair system definetely no though. Ferrari hates it as it is rubbish at revving very high.

Byrne and Martinelli are definetely wizzards! I heard that the latter has some input also! :D

Everyone's concerned about track times but what about the important features such as the sound system? :)

The f40 lapped slower but point taken. Damn did the macca ever need stiffer springs and bigger wheeels

Excluding my ignorant statement about the pushrod suspension, the rest of my statement still stands. This is more revolutionary than its predecessor. If anything my ignorance reinforces my statement. The f50 had the flappy paddle box, the 360cs if I'm not mistaken was the first fezza to feature carbon brakes. and the f50 was also the first road fezza to use a carbon tub correct? So what was the standout new thing in the enzo then?

f40: 428.18bhp per tonne from the info I have
    f50: 417.07bhp per tonne
    f60: 476.92bhp per tonne
f70: 750+bhp per tonne projected from what I read in R&T

That is either r&t blowing smoke up my ass or this thing will be a serious departure from its predecessors.

Plus all the whizbang about the KERS and what not.

And on a slightly unrelated note, if the standard enzo rated at 217mph topped at 230 what did the fxx evo top out at then?

Ferrari Magazine Issue 18 is now available through the "Ferrari Magazine Official App". I just downloaded it, $7.99, but it has a big article in it regarding the F70, with numerous pics in it that I can guarantee you've never seen before. Don't get me wrong, it's still covered up with the body "armour", but I would definitely suggest checking it out! I don't want to ruin it by explaining anything. I didn't read the whole article though, as I just downloaded it. Enjoy!
