Err, beg to differ; If you really don't care, just don't bother voting...... [Or even commenting come to that ] Anyway, somewhat related, I over slept and just caught the Speed recording. Most interesting comment from Buxton about a "big" new sponsor at Merc next season. The speculation is it's Coke, under their Monster Energy brand - They want to knock RBR off, and are prepared to pay the ferryman to do it by paying Lulu the big bucks....... Cheers, Ian
Coke has been doing a very thorough study of F1 and how it would work for them. Well over a year now.
Very interesting. Thanks for that. Mind me asking how you know this?...... Debbie Downer this morning D? "Cross that bridge when we get there" I think. Cheers, Ian
I think Coke would be a better sponsor than the Monster brand. Monster is actually owned by Hansens and only distributed by Coke (at this point, at least). It's also facing some controversy in how it's marketed...Coke, on the other hand, is just one of the strongest global brands there is. I've heard that Coke is considering jumping into F1, but I hadn't heard that they would use Monster as the property...
Interesting - Thanks for that. I guess the question for the marketing geniuses is if Coke "needs" this kind of promotion? I believe it remains the worlds best known brand. Monster OTOH would gain many eyeballs and (probably?) increased sales (?) Anyway, while reading the news came across a similar poll at the Telegraph - I don't like their wording and lack of other options (mines better! ), but their sample size is significant - Seems folk are of pretty much the same opinion as us! [We're not completely out there it seems ] Cheers, Ian http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/lewishamilton/9564581/Poll-should-Lewis-Hamilton-leave-McLaren.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think that the reality is, any sponsorship money from Monster would simply be replacing money that Mercedes would have put into the team, rather than adding to that money, so Coca-Cola would end up being disappointed if it thought it would be that easy to knock RBR from their current F1 position. Also, with the constant calls for budget caps/restrictions, they wouldn't look too clever coming in with massive amounts of money, ignoring the budgeting of every other team. As for Lewis and where he'll be next season, I simply still can't see what Mercedes really offer Lewis over McLaren. More money? - Maccy L are allegedly now prepared to match the Murky D's salary amount so that can't be it! (and besides, I don't get the impression that money is the most important thing to Lewis in F1, especially now he has Millions in the bank anyway. I get the impression that more WDC's are what he really wants - which brings Me nicely to the next point!) More WDC's? - By moving to Murky D's, Lewis would have to get used to a whole new team, their way of doing things, a new car/chassis/aero package and design concept. That's a big gamble! It may be that he'd feel at home straight away, but it's just as possible that he could end up struggling a bit to start with and get left behind in the championship. And lets not forget, this is Mercedes third year back in F1 and they haven't shown any signs of being anything but a mid-field team in all that time, despite having the likes of Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher on-board. Could Lewis do better in developing the car than Schumacher? - not enough to make that much difference I suspect. With Maccy L on the other hand, he knows the team, he knows the routines, the design concepts and principals, the chassis and aero characteristics and he knows it's a team that has the ability to push for Championship victories already. To Me it's a no-brainer! - he'll be parking in the same car park as he did this year, and last year, and the year before that, at Maccy L's in Woking! (And based on Maccy L designing their 2013 car around Lewis and Jenson, it seems that they are confident he's staying too!)
That is what I am also thinking, the only place for their money would be for drivers unless they can increase the budget in one area and decrease in another to balance the sheets. I don't usually pay too much attention to these area's so I could be mistaken but it seems like it could be a huge hassle. At this time it may not be a big hassle but with the talk of further reducing budgets it could be significant. Also I think using Coke and not Monster would be the better choice.
SPEED reporting Hamilton to Mercedes, replacing Schumacher! Wow...I didn't really think this would happen. Hopefully this is the result of some serious strategic discussions between he and Brawn, Haug, etc. I wonder if Merc will be walking away from McLaren altogether?
+10 With the current car Mercedes offers, is it wise that Hamilton move to Mercedes? Enlighten me here. Also what happen to Schumacher now.
Brazilian press has just released that Perez has signed with McLaren and Lewis is going to Mercedes, with Schumacher's retirement coming at the end of the year and his taking up a position as counselor inside Mercedes.... Here's the link if you can read or want to try and read portuguese: http://www.diariomotorsport.com.br/2012/09/exclusivo-sergio-perez-assina-com-a-mclaren/
It's been decided, hambone is leaving mclaren for Mercedes! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/lewishamilton/9572696/Lewis-Hamilton-to-join-Mercedes-in-100m-move-from-McLaren.html
And looks like Perez is going to McLaren. His father´s twitter @MEXICOPEREZ reads "Signed today, tomorrow it will be news"
Wow, guess MB will let him keep the trophies. Ugh, the real reason Massa appears to be getting a deal for '13?
Is it too late to change my vote ? I detest being wrong... . And it looks as though we're down one WDC competing in '13. Long as he doesn't take car #1 to AMG next year (wouldn't that be a burn..), I don't care where he goes, Checo will be more of a threat than the Mercurial Benz. But I've been wrong before...
I wish Mercedes nothing but failure from 2013 onwards. Perez, hope you can keep your winning ways at Mclaren! rub hamiltons nose in it
