So I'm going to be disappointed if the FIA does not fine Bernie for bringing the sport into disrepute - bribery...

unfortunately its in Germany.... they dont need the money as much as the UK....

Still, Bernie is the one that made F1 today, the sport we love. Does that mean we are all
accomplices because we watch, look the other way?

    Heck yes!

Bernie, Bernie, Bernie...say it isn't so.

There is a reason why Ecclestone and Ccksucker have the same number of letters.

Really! It's a shame that the internet forums have become a place for name calling and accusations which are based on absolutely nothing.
I am 100% sure that Ross has never met nor probably even seen Mr E in person, but is happy tp apply derogatory titles to the man. Similarly Phil.
What did that old TV programme say back in the day? "Just the facts ma'am"?

The cloak of an internet forum should be no reason to pre judge nor name call others.

    Just my 0.02

The interesting point is that only Bernie calling Gribkowksy "civil servant" serves as a prove that Bernie knew that he dealt with a state employee (which has a bunch of legal implications). Bernie's legal team up to know apparently claimed that he could not possibly have any idea that the bank wasn't a complete private entity - WTF? Doing nine figure deals with someone called Bavarian State Bank, and poor Bernie didn't have a chance to figure out if they were a public or private entity??

I've met Bernie in person and negotiated with him. slippery bugger is what my English friends called him.... Bernie did build F-1 into the huge international TV business it is today, but at the same time he's destroyed the cars, teams, tracks and fan experience for one reason: MORE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ he has a severe case of Napoleon complex. He and Mr. Ferrari share one major common trait... they came from nowhere and love to screw people for $$$$$. it makes him feel more important and smarter.

There will always be people like this in high positions in this world. Unfortunately a lot of them are judges!

Let me know when he's in jail, otherwise I would chalk this up to being another "Bernie episode" he'll masterfully wriggle out of.

No, I have not met Mr. Extortionist and don't care to, it wouldn't go well. I regard the man as well as a steaming turd.

I resent his meddling in the sport to the degree that I have abandoned watching, he has none of my pennies. It's a damn spec. series for show & drama. Little sport left. Pinnsacle of motor sport? Perhaps, but certainly with one arm tied.

I will happily will see him prosecuted like any criminal but likely be disaapointed when he walks after writing another check or two.

Hardly any more a spec series than it has ever been.

Arthur and I both ran Brabham cars way back when, unfortunately I chose to switch chassis from the semi-works one we were running. By the time we returned from Norfolk to London, we received a 'request' to meet Mr E in his office. He knew about the chassis switch and asked why, no animosity. Later years both Arthur and I had time served in different F1 teams and Mr E always talked albeit briefly when we crossed paths.

He applied a very different approach to the problems which existed prior to FOCA, made a lot of team owners very wealthy. He was and is a racer at heart despite other goings on.

I'm not privvy to any other information regarding these matters above, for sure Mr E has 'bent' rules and 'influenced' many people, but when he steps away, F1 will change a great deal and not for the good. IMO.

    Here's the deal....from a legal perspective.

If you are a private family business, what you do is 'your own business', within the overarching laws of the land.

But his "sale" of F1, broadcasting rights, had all kinds of twists and turns within it. and brought in stock holders, and these government owned banks...

While I have no idea of his objectives, cashing out, hiding assets from soon to be ex wife, whatever the motivation, it matters little.

Once in the publicly traded arena a WHOLE SET of higher standards are applied with extreme scrutiny of every move. Here he sits, trying to "explain" a briefcase payment of millions.

Going to be hard to do.
    Even for him.

So how are the German prosecutors going to get around the slight issue of :

"......after Mr Ecclestone gave testimony to the Munich court under immunity"?
    (From: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18522111 )

    (From: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/immunity )

    DEFINITION OF IMMUNITY:
    3. Law:
    a. Exemption from normal legal duties, penalties, or liabilities, granted to a special group of people: legislative immunity.
    b. Exemption from legal prosecution, often granted a witness in exchange for self-incriminating testimony.

I can't help feeling that Bernie's lawyers aren't going to have too much trouble bringing this little fact up ( b. ), and completely destroy the prosecutions legal ambitions!
