Saw this item on Ebay. Item 221132378263, whats it worth? Never seen a glass top for a Ferrari 308 before. Did the factory ever make a top like this? Anyone know anything about these smoked tops?

I really wish when one of those makes it on eBay someone here doesn't find out and blab it all over this board. Makes the ****ing price go thru the roof.

These tops are absolute junk! No one should want to spend even a penny of their hard earned money on that Lexan death box! :D

I am not sure why anyone would actually want one. But I must admit I collect Ferrari stuff that I will NEVER use too.

No, Sorry. I will not sell any more, only after my death.* Gauges and clocks a-plenty. I have 2 FDs for example all tuned and ready to go on a car. 7 cloth owner's manual covers, one of which was a gift to the man I bought it from, directly from "THE MAN" (Enzo) himself. I have a decent library of real manuals covering the 308, 328, 512, TR, F40 and 208 Turbo lines. Enzo keys? Got um. Folding 308 keys? Yep. Horn buttons, Nardi steering wheels and original wheel caps? Got um. In other words, I collect lots of useless crap. But ONLY when the price is right.

I let two of these tops go (did not buy) over the years, one for $1500 and the other for $1700 but I saw one go in a bidding war before the "Sniper" days for well over $3000 and closer to $4K IIRC.

IF they are NOT UV resistant, I would think they would be a quick way to cook an interior. The main reason I never bought one.

Also upon closer inspection, they just don't look right on the car. Way Too 80's Firebird/Z-28-ish. YMMV.

    * I can see the vultures circling. My wife and kid know "the market" on each piece so no deals will occur then either. If you know me you know what I am referring to. :D

    Just watch eBay and Craigslist.

They are out there. And cheap. Check the European sites. They have stuff for MUCH LESS than the American sites.

For example Emergency lights. I have 5 or 7 or some number. In the USA they go for CRAZY money. In Europe they normally go for, NO KIDDING, less than 1/2 the USA cost. You do NOT have to know the language. The sites are exactly the same. My "Euro" is absolutely terrible. I just "mouse my way" thru. The last one I bought I paid less than $70 for a pristine one with case. Not unusual. Looks brand new.

If someone finds something and says so like in this case, I will never knowingly bid against a fellow F-Chatter if I already have at least one spare of said item.

These pics say it all IMO.

    No Thanx.

    Ill shut up now.

BTW: Someone modded a real top and posted, IIRC, for peanuts to look pretty much like this. Just saying.

I'm curious about the number produced.

Do you think the ad is correct that only about 100 were made?

The guy I got an IM from said about 50 to 90 were made. He contacted the original guys who made the tops and they long ago threw away the molds when they moved locations.

I saw the Ferrari hinges on ebay for $330.00 each. So thats $660.00 for the hinges alone if you were going to remanufacture them. I have no idea what the fiberglas frame and the plexiglass and the gaskets, and front spikes to hook into the windshield would run.

But I see stock, used factory 328 tops on ebay right now for about $2,000. So I would guess a rarer specialty top would be worth more. It will be interesting to see the final bid price, but some millionaire with a 328 would probably think nothing about paying 5K.

Speaking from experience as someone who had a Saratoga with my old 328, they are great! They give you so much extra room that its a blessing for anyone over 6 ft tall. No more head hitting the top. I could ever wear a hat in the car with the Saratoga. Sure you could buy some Speedline wheels for the 328, or get a Nardi steering wheel, or the rear spoiler for the back windshield area, but they really didn't change the driving experience at all. The Saratoga top sure did. The car was completely different to drive, I started NOT taking off the top as I got light and roomyness with it on! A high quality top and well worth the $$$$$$. I only wish Ferrari would have made these as an option for their GTS cars as it would have made such a big difference in the dirving experience "top on". If you see one for sale better grab it. Its a whole lot better than a set of $4,000 shiny aftermarket wheels!!!

Just wondering about something here. Why has no one every simply brought one of these to a someone to have them reproduced?

In looking at this it just doesn't look like it would be that big of a deal, and there is obviously a market for them, so I would think that it could also turn a bit of a profit as well.

    Just wondering.

As far as No UV protection, I agree, this is why I got another one and painted it body color beside my original black top

And as far as being looking like too 80s, isn't the Saratoga top made for the 308/328 which are 80s car? :D
