    This car isn't mine.

Found this clip from Youtube and thought it might be good to link it here also.
The video editor has very very good taste of making this clip. Hope to see more of this car, this kind of quality video clips.

As usual got into some fit with some people over parts... what amazes me is the basic means he had to do this in his garage, like the way he took the engine out was beyond scary...

I think there was a disagreement on parts with Emilio.
I think thing are ok now between them.
I think it turn him off to the forums.

I posted this for Peter the other day on the "other" forum. Since those P7's are pre-2000, their date codes are read differently:

    *******************************************************************
Determining the Age of a Tire

    Tires Manufactured Before 2000

The Tire Identification Number for tires produced prior to 2000 was based on the assumption that tires would not be in service for ten years. While they were required to provided the same information as today’s tires, the week and year the tire was produced was contained in the last three digits. The 2 digits used to identify the week a tire was manufactured immediately preceded a single digit used to identify the year.

Example of a tire manufactured before 2000 with the earlier Tire Identification Number format:

    In the example above:
    DOT EJ8J DFM 408
40 Manufactured during the 40th week of the year
8 Manufactured during the 8th year of the decade
While the previous Tire Identification Number format identified that a tire was built in the 8th year of a decade, there was no universal identifier that confirmed which decade (tires produced in the 1990s may have a small triangle following the Tire Identification Number to identify the decade).
    *******************************************************************

So, your tires would be read as being produced in the 36th and 37th week of the 9th year of the decade. Which decade? My guess would be the 80's. So, probably 1989.

Thank you very much for that education Mike. Greatly appreciated!!

Do you think it could be year 79 being Pirelli came out with P7's that were 225 after they discontinued the 205's?

No Joe, he stopped the updates about the time he was taking the engine apart.
Bad forum etiquette was the cause but couldn't remember any details.

It very well could be! I'm not sure when P7's stopped production.

One thing for sure, it has to be 1979 or 1989. I don't think they made the P7's in 1999? I could be mistaken....... Maybe they did, I just don't know for 100%.

I agree you cant remember the details :)

He continued to post right up till the car was ready for road-testing and was essentially done.
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=140509294&postcount=294

As to his brief halt in posting during the course of the resto, it wasn't forum etiquette that was a problem, but rather a personal disagreement/misunderstanding/dispute with another forum member over parts. Finger-pointing ensued, followed by a retraction, some more finger-pointing, side-taking, and then a request to move on. A while later he was back posting.

Can somebody explain how the "periscopa" mirror should have worked, and why it didn't in the end?

The 'Periscope' or 'Periscopa' moniker is just that, a nick-name that hints at a possibility that was never developed.

In fact, given the basic periscope principle it would have had to have been a reverse periscope with the rear-view mirror mounted above the windscreen as part of the periscope system.

It didn't work because the rear-view 'tunnel' cut into the roof was too shallow to afford much rear-view visibility and couldn't be deepened without seriously impinging upon the cockpit's headroom space. Also, from a practical standpoint, the factory knew that the production car would subject to transportation authorities in jurisdictions all over the wold, some of which required a standard rear-view mirror to be fitted upon the windscreen.

In the end, the notched roof was left in as an avantegarde design feature and it serves the purpose of being a nice little skylight for the cabin.

In the car world any feature that resembles a periscope can give birth to a moniker that sticks - witness the Abarth Periscopa, so-named after air-vents that have nothing to do with viewing at all.
