New to this forum and Ferrari family. Just placed my order for a 458 Italia on Friday and very excited!

I still have a few weeks to finalize my spec and would appreciate any input. Also, one specific question: as you'll see from below, going for kind of a stealth look and therefore decided for black calipers with dark gray painted wheels. Am I ok going with standard black calipers or do I need to spring for optional high gloss black calipers ($1432).

    Grigio silverstone over Nero interior
Carbon racing seats w Nero alcantara inserts (leather and alcantara interior)
    Light gray stitching
20" dark gray painted sport wheels
    Cf rear bumper molding
    Sport exhaust pipes
Cf dashboard trim, central console and drivers area w LEDs (didn't go for cf sport package since dealer thought that included cf in door panels which I don't prefer)
    Alcantara headliner and upper zone
    Interior/exterior mirrors w home link
    iPod and satellite antenna
    Afs lighting (worth $1983?)

Plan to do a gloss black roof wrap, some window tinting, cf shields (if available for 458) and lower the car a little after delivery.

    Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

If you want to have stitched Cavallino on the headrest of the racing seats, don't forget to add them because MY13 cars don't have stitched Cavallino on the racing seats as standart as it used to be.

Also, if you choose Carbon fibre sport pack, you get carbon dash trim + Driver Zone + center console. CF door panels are another option. So get the CF Sport Pack.
I have alcantara pack (DAAL) in cuoio but IMO, full leather looks better if it is nero. You may also think of adding leather strap for the racing seats in yellow or grigio scuro (dark grey)

BTW, alcantara headliner comes standart with alcantara pack (DAAL).

The AFS lighting is handy on twisty mountain roads in the dark. But on regular driving it is not necessary.

Your dealer is wrong when thinking the door panels (called lower zone) are included in the sports package.

The CF shields I still haven't got for my 458, but they should arrive one of these days.

I would go for the standard black calipers.

    Nice spec!

    Agree, your spec sounds nice.

There are 2 things on our 2012 I would have done differently now having owned the car for a bit; 1) would not have gotten the iPod cable, but would have just used the USB adaptor and 2) I would have gotten cruise. Long highway stretches, less about comfort and/or controlling the throttle, all about (lack of) self-control. I find myself settling in at around 95mph....

You spec'd the satellite antenna, are you getting SatNav and SatRadio?

FWIW, our car is Rosso Corsa/Nero/Nero interior plus CPRK. It is QUITE dark. We offset it with Rosso stitching and red seatbelts. We considered a gray Alcantara center on the sport seats for some other contrast (texture, shade). Glad we stayed black, but YMMV.

Funny, we got the Alcantara headliner and leather rear shelf. Am not sure i've even looked at either of those yet..

AFS is worth it IMHO. We live on twisty 2-lane roads....

Let us know what you decide on.

I have a stealth looking Nero Daytona 12 coupe with black gloss wheels and calipers. AFS no needed unless you get front lifter which is not needed IMO. Great spec.

Nice spec, and I agree with all comments thus far. I love Silverstone, and I love the cf rear bumper insert, however it is expensive and I find it to be lost on Siverstone and Nero Daytona cars as it is very similar in colour value. White cars - for sure, but on dark cars I would skip.

Carbon Fiber Racing Package is a must for most. It does not include any door carbon. Door carbon is a different package.

I believe you need to order the standard yellow shields and then replace them with the aftermarket Carbons. The fenders with shields are different than the fenders without.

You did not mention the following:

    Nav?

    Parking Sensors?

    Rear Camera?

    Stitched Cavalinos?

    Color of Rev counter?

    Premium vs. Standard Sound?

Can someone confirm that 2013 requires additional specification to get colour stiched cavallinos when ordering race seats and coloured stitching? This was included in previous years.

Not included any more as of 2013 models. Is additional to the tune of $1000.

So just add the old Extracampionario option, that was typically only for Sport/Daytona Seats?

Wow! I can't thank all of you enough for all of the thoughtful input and helpful advice. This community is amazing and I can tell I'm lucky to be part of it.

I will try to respond to some of your suggestions and comments.

-- re cavallino on headsets: was aware that was extra campionario and still considering but leaning in favor of embossed cavallino that I believe is standard.

-- will definitely go with cf sport pack since it sounds like it includes the cf pieces I'm looking for.

-- considering leather racing stripe on seat but would probably do in same color as stitching (light gray). Would appreciate feedback on that.

-- AFS: looks like opinions on this are somewhat mixed. I'm tempted to skip since Im not planning to get the lifter.

-- brake calipers: leaning standard black unless rcktrod thinks that's a mistake. You don't happen to have pics of your glossy blacks do you?

-- the advice on iPod cable sounds good, especially with the new iPhone 5 plug being smaller

-- yes, planning to do sat radio (is that sep option?) but probably no on nav based on reviews I've read here

-- great suggestion to re-consider cf rear bumper insert given my car color. I originally saw on a white car and thought I had to have it but could probably save $ on silverstone

-- will follow up w dealer on cf shields and order regular shields and replace w cf if available as suggested

-- I had not thought of rear camera or parking sensors but the question makes me think they might be necessary. I can't remember from test drives if rear visibility is compromised. Sounds like I should consider at least one of these

-- rev counter: I went back and forth between white and black many times and the black ultimately seemed to suit the interior I've come up with better than the white

-- thought I would go with standard sound and do something myself to upgrade the system in the unlikely event I ever get tired of listening to the engine

Thanks again to all for the help!!

I think the coupe has a pretty big blindspot from 1600-1700 and from 1900-2000. Backing up is perilous....there's a lot of trust involved.

I opted for the front/rear sensors. I wished I had the camera.

Great car! Get the front and rear sensors and camera. Very important in my opinion is cruise control. I ordered about everything but cruise control and I was so excited about all the other goodies I have no recollection of discussing it although I'm sure I did. Here's the deal; the new throttle is so sensitive that its hard to cruise without some extra effort that prior Ferraris didn't require due to the elimination of the old style mechanical system.Don't make the mistake I'm kicking myself for and get cruise control. This issue has been discussed by people far more knowledgeable than me on other threads.

Good luck, safe driving, and welcome to a great forum with many helpful posters.

I also support the cruise control option. I disagree that the throttle is too sensitive - if you find it too sensitive on the highway, switch to Sport, or switch to Wet. She is very docile then. I always switch to Wet and Auto in narrow cobbled streets, it removes the jerkiness. But the reason I support cruise control is that this car is so powerful, if you drive boring stretches on the highway you will be speeding without realising it many, many, many times. I have used it a lot.

Personally I don't see the need for the rear camera PLUS parking sensors. But the parking sensors are very useful, particularly at the rear. My car doesn't have a rear camera and I never long for it.

Total rookie question: do the sensors require those bumps or "buttons" on the bumpers? If so, I'll go w the camera.

Has anyone got experience with tinting/darkening the rear taillights and other reflectors on a 458? When I asked my dealer about it, one of the options he mentioned was painting them. Maybe it's easiest to just replace them w aftermarket units. If so, any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks!

Great spec. So many choices always makes for second guessing and way too many opinions. That is why I am happy to add mine! My 2013 spider's stitched cavallinos running US $1249 on race seats. But, you are probably doing embossed so ignore. Center race seat stripe in contrasting color will run you about $1150. I have had 2 prior cars with black interiors with yellow stitching/yellow stripes on Daytonas. Despite yellow accents, all black got old. If I ever did an all black interior (again) with race seats I said I would always go with alcantara centers. My new race seats are specced in beige leather with different color center stripe and stitching. I didn't like beige alcantara against beige leather as I do with black. I think alcantara breaks up the starkness of the black. Alcantara also negates patina effect you get on seat cushion with leather wear. Something I never liked. IMO. For brakes I would go with Silverstone to match car. Still stealthy as not a contrast, but to me gives finished look. I have previously posted that so many cars have standard black (Porsche) or silver (Mercedes) calipers. As such, I liked having something "special" on my Ferraris. Not necessary, just my eye/preference. Good luck!

Another reason to get the cruise control. And another reason for me to kick myself for not getting it when the cost was not really an issue.I'm sure it can't be retro fitted or I would get it.

    Jackson,

You can check out a few of the package details from pics of my spider in Grigio Titanio. I have a thread somewhere on the 2nd or 3rd pages of the 458 threads. As I've split the colour of my dash, you can see the carbon fibre racing package pretty clearly.

Aside from that I would recommend the stitched cavallinos and also the AFS. My one regret is not getting AFS as on windy, hilly roads at night it would make a big difference over standard.

The thread is here and this page has some pics top and bottom. One other point I saw a few of the darker coloured cars with the rear diffuser in carbon at the factory and I agree with the earlier comment that it doesn't make much difference. Looks really good on some of the lighter coloured cars. Didn't get it on my Titanio as I wanted to keep things pretty clean with not too much going on in terms of colours and textures as Titanio really shows the lines of the car.

I been thinking about the rear view camera which is common on most luxury cars.I have gotten used to it and it needs to work only once to pay for itself. It is not overkill to also have the sensors which seem to have a wider protection area. I would get both.

Your spec sounds great. I would definately go for the rear carbon grill. Silverstone is agreat colour and when the weather is bright it can apear quite light. the grill would really stand out imo and makes the car look wider and lower. Sensors front and rear without doubt, not sure of the need for the camera and its an expensive option. Have you looked at the race seats with the daytona option being shown on a seperate thread. I didnt even know they did them when I ordered mine. I think nero with grey inserts could look brilliant on a silverstone car. hope you enjoy the journey!

Great options you have. I would add the front and rear sensors with camera. Great if you live with parallel parking. Rear visibility is not so good and a getting a ding backing up will cost almost the options. I have both in 458 and the Spider on order.
I would add the AFS. great for night driving especially when you don't realize how fast you are heading into the turns or off ramp.
I say no to the iPod. Not worth the $900 since you can upload your tunes into the 40g hd in the car. Now with the new adapter on the iPhone 5, it would be useless. You would think Ferrari would syc Bluetooth to the music system like the one in my Bimmer.
Good luck in all your final decision.

    Agree,

    As you can see on this link;

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/ninoscy/7485352362/

With the black roof wrap and a carbon rear grill it is very complimentary, it will make the car look wider and lower.

also maybe go with the silver callipers as opposed to yellow which will accent better with this coloured grey rims.

Exciting times to be speccing a new Italia
