So a family member who liv in Stl got a Go-Pro camera for his birthday. he now use it when he rides his motorbikes He is annoyed with the wind noise though. So my question for the Go-Pro users is... What is a perfect solution to reduce windnoise significantly when you wear the camera on a helmet? A microphone placed somewhere else? Or maybe a little furball sticker or something? Any help would be appreciated.
I ride a motorcycle and have spent some time perfecting recording with a GoPro. To get rid of wind noise on the helmet you will most likely need a mic somewhere else out of the wind path. I bought a fur cover (micover.com $19.99) that goes over the open back door which helped a lot with wind noise but the audio from the GoPro still is poor. I bought a tiny mic from e-bay ($13.99) that works much better but needs to be out of direct wind also and requires the use of the GoPro skeleton case. I've also used a $150.00 Rode Videomic also which worked super. the picture is a open back door with and without the fur cover and the e-bay mic. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've never been able to get perfect sound from any video camera with filming on car (I'm going to assume it's the same on a bike). I think the only way to really get perfect audio is to get a seperate audio recorder and put it somewhere without any wind whatsoever. The deadcats do seem to work, but they never totally get rid of noise, especially once you get over 35 mph or so.
I have had pretty good luck by placing the GoPro behind my windscreen when using the small plug-in e-bay mic it's out of the wind. When using the Rode with deadcat I still put the GoPro behind the windscreen but the Rode goes under the tail section using a bolt I put in the empty hole that was my passenger peg mounting holes. The Rode is pointing at the exhaust so you only hear that! I have video of both setups if you like. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm assuming you record from the Rode separately? I'm thinking about picking up another Go Pro and then finding a way to mount a separate audio recorder to my rear toe hook and point it at the exhaust, shouldn't be much wind noise mounted to the rear of the car.
No the GoPro Hero2 has a mic input below is a small clip of the Rode Videomic on the R6 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyq3JaiYK7g[/ame]
Thanks a million for the info. Ill forward it to him. He ride vintage bikes so I dont think he have a windscreen, but I am sure he can figure something out
