    You said... (and I quote)

"I say Hammy's contract is NOT renewed for next year"

That was wrong. McLaren did renew his contract. He chose not to accept it. McLaren said they offered him the highest paying contract in F1 history and he turned it down.

You backtracked a bit a few posts later and said..

"I still think he has a good chance of NOT being resigned by Mclaren "

    Then you said

"FIRE THE BUM... Hamiltons behavior is grounds for dismissing him and finding a young talented replacement for next year."

    then you said

"I saw his behaivor as something someone would do when they are losing there job"

He didn't lose his job. He quit. They tried to keep him but he quit anyway. Monumental difference.

You also said "Maclaren has the upper hand"

Apparently not, since he turned down their biggest-payday-of-any-F1-driver-ever offer to go elsewhere.

    Then you repeated

"his contract will not be renewed "

It seems pretty clear to me that your premise was that Ron Dennis/McLaren were tired of Hamilton's behavior and would not be renewing his contract. In other words, they were ditching him. What ended up happening is that they offered him the biggest F1 driver contract ever, and Hamilton turned it down.

IMO, it's sort of like the difference between driving along and getting T-boned by a semi truck and driving recklessly and losing control and T-boning a semi truck. The end result is an accident either way, but there is a world of difference between the two.

I think getting the party who did not renew the contract right is crucial to this debate, and you were 100% wrong.

In the end McLaren AND LH are both better off and we have a win win situation. Almost makes F1 worth watching again ...

    Apparently, the question of #1 status was never raised. From Autosport;

    So, now we know! ;)

I don't think it has been reported anywhere that he was or may have been offered 1 status.

We/well myself thought Brawn may have dangled a carrot.

But thinking about it, Nico does not deserve a kick in the teeth like that, and I 'am glad due to the fact am not a fan of team orders from the get-go.

    +1

However, many of the armchair QB's herein have certainly implied it. ;) [Darn, according to many here, Sebby-V is already signed by the Scuderia as well!]

BTW, I think you may have misunderstood my "we'll see how good the Young Lad is" comment - To me (and Is ;)) the "Young Lad" is, & forever will be, Nico. He can hold his head high -v- the Schu, but Lulu? Should be fun.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

The board are involved and monitoring this situation. Part of the LH deal included a 3 year plan moving forward. Brawn has his new driver and top name team. Results are now clearly expected.

    Ya think! :)

Anyone who questioned their commitment was clearly mistaken; $100MM is a substantial investment by anyone!

As I said, they better be right on the pace or many tears will be shed and careers finished!

4 years ago I would have said yes but after Montoya being away for so long (6 years) I'm not sure he would hold up

Montoya...! Nahhh. That is as bad as Villeveuve coming back. Now even the test
drivers have a tough time getting a drive because of the lack of experience. Look
at D'ambrosio how he fared in the Lotus and he was driving last year.

I think this is the reason why they want to open for more testing for the test guys.
Otherwise they cannot gain any learning development outside the simulators.

LOL. He had weight issues while in F1, I can only imagine him porking badly at Nascar.

Okay does LH then think that McLaren was not giving him a fair chance then? (replying to Brawn's quoted comments). I find that strange ...

Mclaren have a history of losing their drivers due to their so called professionalism, and high standards, but i think Hammi is making a mistake joining a midfield team. IMO, he should have remained at Mac, till Vettel heads to Ferrari so he can team uo with Adrian Newey.

...'Lewis Hamilton does not know much about racing history and so cannot learn from the mistakes of others. Perhaps he thinks that if it fails he will at least have the consolation of earning loads more money and being a bigger star, thanks to his hustling management that will sell his image here, there and everywhere. That might make him an international celebrity on a bigger scale than he is, but it will not make him a racing legend.

Perhaps Mercedes will pull it off and then Hamilton will look clever, but I fear that this will be a move similar to James Hunt joining Wolf; Emerson Fittipaldi joining Fittipaldi, Jacques Villeneuve moving to BAR or Niki Lauda’s ill-fated move to Brabham. History relates that you do not leave a winning team in F1 unless it is to go to another proven winner…'

Not a resounding endorsement from Joe.

That will NEVER happen. I asked him a couple of years ago and he had a pretty thorough answer as to why he hated F1 (and McLaren specifically)

He forgot to include Michael Schumacher leaving Benneton for Ferrari. He was a double-world champion at Bennetton before joining Ferrari and its 20+ year span without a WDC or WCC.
