So you are agreeing with me, I think. The original premise of my posting those god-awful photos was in a playful response to this post: "Thanks God Ferrari still put style in front of money, wings, publicity, customers, lap times and likeability." Both the Zonda and the Ferrari have amazing technology, style, and know how incorporated into their design. Just because someone chooses to customize the cars in a strange way does not diminish the underlying car.
That was made for Lapo Elkann, I believe, who is more than a customer, and will end up in a wall pretty soon. While the Zonda was made to appeal Elthon John apparently: " the eccentric automaker has painted the carbon body with purple and black and for the interior Pagani chose an unique pink leather and carbon trim, which will be more than appealing to billionaires mistresses or Elton John." Is it the room they left for a Drive shaft?
That's great to hear. I think Ferrari is finally getting it regarding driving feel vs. all out speed. It seems like they are doing things with the steering dynamics to remove some of the insulated feel of recent models over the last decade or so. The Automobile review of the F12 commented on how the steering feel was much improved over the previous generations (599, F430, etc.). It's interesting how steering feel can so greatly affect the overall experience. -F
It is also glad confirmation of what a few have been saying on these threads about speed or Ring times not being the be all and end all. It takes more to make a hypercar and hopefully again the Mclaren Ferrari battle might, but only might come down in sheer performance stakes on the P1's side, but, for many, the overall Ferrari package will win the day.
Looked like the driver could sit slightly lower than in a traditional seat, but won't be cradled quite like an F1 car. >8^) ER
Rear engine, rear drive. I don't see a tunnel. I do see a 'hump' between the seats, but my guess is that this is for strength and convenience, not to transmit a drive shaft. I dunno. the pictures are not that clear on this issue.
That tunnel is for cooling lines from the front radiator and for stiffness. A tub with no center tunnel would have more flex than one with one. -F
In the years to come "originality" may no longer be the absolute virtue to restorers that it is today.
There is definitely room for something. But is that enough space for a drive shaft? Or is this just for electronics and pneumatics? Can somebody with more technical knowledge give his opinion? http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141779830&postcount=2116 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141789496&postcount=2369
Thanks! Thought so. I was unlikely that they would include such a heavy construction when the focus lies on weight reduction. And even if so, I don't think they would put a drive shaft through the monocoque (rather build the monocoque around it)
The only 4WD Ferrari is that heavy GT, the FF, and even that one is only part time all wheel driven and sends power to the front wheels differently. The sports cars will always be RWD. Nothing to fear here.
I do think it's possible to see some hybrid solution for awd in the future (just a hunch). Not in the F70 but in the later models. And for the FF: it was probably the best solution if you want to have the best of both worlds (luxury and good handling)
You are sending us on a fishing expedition now! LOL What I noticed that seems somewhat interesting is that the dash is molded together with the windshield and roof. It seems that the entire upper half is one piece and if it is removable to create an open top car it would have to be together with the windshield and weirdly with the dash. I am really going all out here, but maybe ferrari made the car to have two completely different variations. One that is an enclosed one with a full dash, airbags and everything and one that is absolutely hardcore and is open top with minimal screen infront and a bare necessities race dash. The crazy thing would be if the transformation would be achievable in one's garage. That oval cut out in the center of the dash looks awful lot like a handle to me.
I was thinking exactly the same thing about the option to have the top off but assumed that was for two versions, but you have taken it one further. Clever thought.
Yeah, it looked to me like the "lift out cell" of a F-1 car. Just grab the T-bar where the gull wing doors come together and lift.
