Not really. It depends on your blood type. ;) Same with cars. On good tarmac and in fair weather RWD is unbeatable. Proven time and again. ;) If you introduce rain to the equation, 4WD rules...

I don't buy that. A clever system could offer the best of both worlds.

And also, for how much I hate to say it, I think porsche's approach with 4wd and 4ws has a big potential both in lap times and safety, without necessarily compromise fun.

    P.s. Blood type: red.
I stuck a pin in it.

Formula 1 teams indulged in the idea of 4WD. In the rain it was superb. On dry tarmac the RWD cars slaughtered them though. Simple physics. More weight and losses for the 4WD, plus the inherent understeer problem of their's. Drive a Carrera 4 in a track and then try a Carrera 2 for size. You will be amazed!

smart electronics can help eliminate understeer in an AWD car. Just drive the GTR and see what I mean

Don't like it to be honest. The AWD Gallardo is much nicer but still no 430 though! ;)

Any F1 tests done with AWD since the 70's?

Put 900+ HP in the Porsche and then tell me which one is faster around a dry track. RWD has its limits, especially when you start pushing Veyron levels of power.

I remember recent talks of allowing 4wd to formula 1 teams that stayed under a certain budget cap.

Carrera 4wd aystem is not light nor clever.

Audi won lemans with the system I am talking about.

4 contact patches better than 2, simple physics.

As far as I know a 700 HP Zonda F outruns a 1000 hp Veyron in a track. Ta ta!

Are you serious? First you tell me to compare 2 nearly identical Porsches, one with AWD and the other with RWD to see which one was faster. That is a legitimate comparison.

Now you are comparing 2 COMPLETELY different types of cars! The weight difference between the 2 cars is somewhere around 1,800 pounds!

Forget apples and oranges, you're not even comparing fruit with fruit.

That sounds really good but unfortunately I don't think it will turn out that way. The promotional video of the tub clearly shows the upper half is a separate piece but that doesn't necessarily mean it is removable. The doors don't really match the removability, and if you just took everything away (roof+doors) there would be surely safety issues without a roll cage and very little side protection.

And someone just posted a drawing of the enzo tub which shows also the upper half as a separate piece, and that one never became removable.

Are you even reading my posts?

Yes, comparing 2 similar cars, both with moderate power, RWD will be faster. I agree with you.

My point is that when you start getting up to 900+ HP RWD will start to be traction limited (even in the dry). At that point AWD will begin to have an advantage over RWD, even with the added weight.

The cars you mention above are likely under 400 HP so AWD would be slower in the dry.

You are never satisfied mate. I brought you an example where a RWD car with less power has better laptimes than a 1000 HP 4WD monstrosity. You say they are different cars. Then I say that two identical 350 HP cars have recorded lap times and the RWD is faster. You still don't like it. Well, tell you what; I am certain that if a 900 HP 4WD F70 were quicker than a 900 HP RWD F70, Ferrari would build it. So would McLaren. Guess what though? Both the Ferrari and the McLaren are going to be RWD and much quicker than the 4WD 918. How much more proof than this would one need really?

Unless that guy in the picture is really short, looks like there will be A LOT of headroom in this car.

    My thoughts exactly!

PS: All the great drivers prefer RWD, regrardless of the power. Rohrl prefers the GT2 RS to the Turbo S. Me? I am an average club driver. Still like an S2000 over an Impreza WRX though...

1000kg maybe not, maybe not 1100, and maybe not even 1200, but 1300 would be crazy.

I am sure the engine will have at least 800hp. 800+100electric in a 1300kg ...would be just crazy...
