Because they derive or are inspired to racing ones, where traditional 4wd is banned for purity.
Now that this new breed of hybrid awd systems is surfacing, and is being allowed to race for research and developments reasons, sports cars are following suit.

The fact that f1 are not awd is for regulation reasons and purity, not because they are slower, the exact opposite, otherwise there would not be a ban as for act. aer., movable wings, turbos, etc...
And even if so, the fact that a car is allegedly marginally slower on the dry (which I don't buy), and much faster on the wet, still makes it a superior weapon.

Ferrari will probably keep the F70 rwd to conform to the image of a f1' for the road, in the same way as it does not have turbo.

Let's wait for the F80 for that

The fact that hybrids are more powerful in LeMans is balanced by the weight disadvantage and the smaller tank.

The main misunderstanding here are the preconceptions about traditional awd systems, which are not justified under a certain power/weight ratio, are under steering, heavy and produce high mechanical friction.

I am talking instead of hybrid systems where the choice is to direct the Kers power either upfront or at the back as in f1.

I argue upfront is way better as it than offers torque vectoring and hope it will be allowed in f1 sooner rather than later, so that we will be able to enjoy it on our Ferraris.

Toyota already beat Audi at their own game, in the WEC round of Sao Paulo Brazil. They lapped the E-Tron 4wd Audi at one point in the race and finished 1 minute ahead of them. In their 3rd race.

4wd would cause added wear on the front tires, and induce understeer that would have to be compensated for in the setup of the car. RWD is also 'pure' in driving feel. Ferrari made the right decision.

Exactly! Some people refuse to look at the truth though.

It's far from being marginal! And noone cares about the wet in those cars.

    I have not seen that.

However, if the F70 is the same size as the 458, maybe not. (I still think the F70 will be longer.)

I believe Luca stated that during the launch of the 458 when asked about a Scuderia version. His response was something like, we won't do it, we don't make airplanes, alluding to the fact that the 458 performance was already ski high. I agree PR can often be filled with spin.

As far as AWD, I think it's a solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist. Enzo's and F430's have enough power/weight that they can break loose when the traction control is disengaged. But when it's engaged (progressively through the manettino options) there's no problem. The Race mode seems to offer a good balance.

How many F70 customers have asked for AWD? I suspect not many.

A little bit more revealing tho. I think the inside side of the fenders is more apparent on this one. Also it looks like behind the front wheels there is a vertical fin , pretty much like on the 599XX. I just hope the headlights will be different. Also it is clear that the rear window, does not have slots like the P4/5 / 512S, but they are just tape. This thing will have a front strongly influenced by the 330/412P cars IMO. I wonder if the name will have any connection with them too.
The other thing I noticed is how the top edge ow the windshield is curved, but then it does not flow with the roof, which is all covered in tape. So does the roof have some "padding" to throw people off?

Correct. All it suggests is that there might be good headroom for tall drivers. Nothing else can be read into it.

LOL, why are you putting your screen name on images from Ferrari? Do you think someone is going to steal them and claim them as theirs? :D

Wait a minute, are you serious? Do I have this right? You took images, supplied by Ferrari, and then put your name on them so no one would take them and claim them as their's? That's rich.

It has changed. There was a PPT leaked with the Models plan for the Ferrari group and they did mention a lighter 458 by end of 2013.

Obviously Luca didn't want to steal the thunder of the Italia. But we on Fchat know better than that. :D
