Check out the winning bidder's recent auctions. Thanks to the weak dollar this top going to Deutschland.
yes, but even here he overpayed by at least 50%... sure it`s a "nice to have" thingy... but practically you wouldn`t use it more often than your hardtop...in my case never (except in case of rain) on the other hand...a thing is always worth what someone is willing to pay for (I bought the great 308 luggage set a couple of years ago...and sofar only used it one time...but I wouldn`t want to miss it)
Sorry Buddy. Others will pop up. This is like the 5th or 6th AT LEAST since 2007 that I have seen here. Most seem to go for around the $1200 - $1400 mark and THAT is nuts. I'll bet you could make one for half that.
I have a Saratoga top on my 1979 308. They are very thick plastic and durable. Easy to polish any little scratches out of (try to fix a scratched stock roof). Fit well and do not leak. On a really sunny summer day they let heat in. Otherwise there are no drawbacks to them. If Ferrari made the same product it would be identical in quality. I removed the leather straps on the rear latches. No cowl shake issues but then I only drive on nice roads.
For everyone's info. I am selling the Saratoga top on Ebay. You can see my posts from several years ago on my 308GTS and the top is referenced. Recently people discussed my old 308 GTS as it was being sold at the Buick dealer in Kansas (someone traded it in on a Porsche). I have been asked by no less than 8 people to end the auction early and sell them the top, which I cannot do as it would violate Ebay's conduct rules. This is going to be a fair auction for all. The top is used, in very nice shape. No warranty and no returns. Please look at the pics closely or ask for me to send you more pics until your comfortable bidding. If you near Kansas City then I will be glad to show you the top and let you put it on your car to see if you like it. Before selling my car an expert told me about the top and its manufacturer (think he knew the principle of the Saratoga Sunroof Co). Its an interesting part for a 308 or 328. Its Lexan, not plexiglas which the porsche tops were made of....
The Ferrari top is supposedly made of Lexan....that means you can shoot a gun at it and it won't crack. Lexan is virtually unbreakable.
Yes, lexan. It's not bulletproof, I have shot rifle rounds thru lexan. Nothing is bulletproof if the rounds keep hitting the same spot. Depleted uranium is almost bulletproof, but it makes a really bar top for sports cars......
This one blew through $2600... http://www.ebay.com/itm/221132378263?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
To answer an IM, I posted the top on Ebay rather than Ferrarichat's site, as Ebay is the industry standard for parts sales. Not all Ferrari owners know about Ferrarichat. But Ebay gets the most visability. So far over 600 views, 51 followers, many overseas.
Mike that's the top I saw and it was on that same car as well.It felt like it weighed half the weight of the original. Actually the website states its 30% lighter. Is the Saratoga top lighter than the original?
As most of you know I used to be in a band which is more popular in Italy than here HA we had some Dan armstrong Guitars which were made of lucite http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Dan-Armstrong-Lucite-Bass-guitar-/160847492332?pt=Guitar&hash=item257341f4ec these were very heavy but way thicker. I wantd to post a pic of a 1970 sunroof UK GT4 ad but cant find it now. I would want one of these if I had a GTS! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sean its the real deal. That car is located in Sydney and the guy who owned the car had the top made, Link to the top http://www.ferraricarbon.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=40
**** at 1600$ which is a deal, US you guys should be stocking up on them for an ebay run in the future! HA
Nope. $3.2K and change now with 2d and 7h to go, as I post. This bidding war is gunna hurt prices for a very long time just like the silly one that cranked prices for Lee Brummel's book into outer space. It still has not recovered.
Oh ok thanks,,if you ever get a chance it would be interesting to see which was heavier. Have you ever seen the carbon fibre roof in person?
Well...perhaps I shall bid on every Keith Bluemel book I see, so one day I should be able to trade one of the two I have (each paid 30 five years ago) for a Saratoga Top? Best,
