The exterior is a definite improvement! Is the interior design still from 1985, though?

Saw it at 2 dealer intro's the last 2 days - and it looks great! Yeah it's bigger but it weighs less than the outgoing model; with a standard 6 speed (3 pedal) the thing weighs no more than 3000 lbs. or so - or about 500 lbs. lighter than a 458 spider! At about $75K loaded, it's certainly no direct rival to any Ferrari, but IMO it looks preferable to the new Carrera cab. It's for sure not any longer a Porsche to sneeze at, or take lightly. Best.

I agree those who say the new Boxster is a huge improvement in looks. The 2013 Now has some pretty decent road presence the old Boxster did not have. Both the Cayman and Boxster look like homeruns to me.

We currently have a 987 Boxster. I saw the new Boxster at my Porsche Centre tonight. Car was a Red manual with Black 20 inch wheels.

Wow, looks amazing. Love the exterior and whilst not completely sold on the interior, I do have to admit it does look classier than the 987. I would like to see one in non-metallic Black.

Can't wait to drive one, I reckon even in these tough times they will sell all they can get their hands on.

The turn out for the launch in Newport Beach was light. The car's nice. "S" stickered at around $75K so probably $80K out the door. Seems like a lot for a car that's an entry level P car and that you could get an earlier used low mile "S" in the mid teens. Apparently P and VW have big expectations for their cars with supposedly 50% volume increases. Sounds like their dreaming. Looks like a great product though these days. :)

    Welcome to Australian pricing Guys!

Base starting price for a Boxster manual on the road is $109K before options. An S starts at $140K

Right Hand Drive and 23 million people living in a country nearly the same size as the Continous United States doesn't help with our pricing........unfortunately. :(

Just saw one Sunday, I think it looks great! Th size increase doesn't seem to be quite so drastic in the flesh. Can't wait to see what the cayman redesign looks like.

the spoiler design, as it passes through the tail lights is very cool.
this will likely be copied by other manufactures in the future.
my brother took delivery of the new boxter-s last week.
i think this is the best driving porsche.

We love our 2011 S. Will be interesting to see how it handles compared to the new model. Same 315 hp. The video mentioned lack of feel in the elec steering several times. we have the 6 sp and the tranny is flawless.

The rear end of the new S looks busy...delete all that badging. ;)

Can't wait to drive and see one in person.

Just saw a Black on Black "S" at Cars and Coffee, it looks fantastic, to be honest, much better than I was expecting.

I haven't seen a black one yet, but it really does sneak up on you. Boxsters are fairly common here, so I didn't think expect to get excited about the new one, but because it's longer and wider it looks lower (and being a convertible tends to accentuate this effect).

And the team that did the front end of the 458 should be schooled by the team that revised the Boxster nose/lights. It's probably one of the best since the 904/906 era, and has a whiff of Dino 246 about it.

Jon, the Dino comparison is very valid, I think you will find the new car especially in certain colors (New Agate) comes to mind an outstanding design.

Sometimes bigger becomes too big. I think the size of the S1 Boxster was just right, quality issues notwithstanding. I prefer the look of the '05-'12 dashboard because it's less cluttered and, when leather-optioned, still looks luxurious. Round air vents also more distinctive than rectangular vents.

Just received a brochure (book) from Porsche NA on the new Boxster and Boxster S.

    Auto Start Stop Function

"The Auto Start Stop function is featured as standard on the new Boxster models. It automatically switches off the engine if, for example, you stop at traffic lights, disengage the gear and lift your foot off the clutch. As soon as you operate the clutch again, the system will restart the engine. This efficient technology boosts fuel economy primarily in towns or congested motorway traffic." (I believe a similar feature is an "option" on some new Ferraris)

Anybody had any experience with this system. Does it work with PDK? How?

    Electrical System Recuperation

"...the vehicle battery is recharged by the generator predominantly under braking. During acceleration, this enables the full drive torque from the combustion engine to be transferred straight to the road, while the electrical systems are mainly supplied with the electrical power from the battery previously stored under braking."

Awkwardly worded to say the least (quoted exactly). Can anyone explain clearly? Like KERS but not more horsepower???

    Thermal Management

"The new thermal management system regulates the temperature in the engine and gearbox through the intelligent control of heat flow. In this way, the engine and gearbox reach operating temperature sooner. As a result, fuel consumption is reduced through increased combustion efficiency and lubrication performance."

Clear enough. My 2011 warms up very fast. guess this is even faster.

I have driven both the new Box and Cayenne Turbo with auto start/stop. Works as advertised and is very quick to start, smooth and would probably become unnoticeable over time. Radio, A/C, etc stay on during stops. My only question was how hard all the re-starting would be on the starter?

I thought it was, yes. Every time you pull up to a red light.. the engine shuts off. Take your foot off the break to go again it restarts. Was just very annoying to me.

I was a passenger in a new 5 series that had it and you can really tell. Not sure if it is something you would ignore over time.

I too wonder what this will do to the lifespan of the starter.

Yes you can turn it off if you don't want to save a teaspoon worth of fuel while you're out trying to have some motoring fun in a car that has nothing else in common with a Honda Hybrid on fuel economy but this strange stop start idea. What strange bedfellows government regulations end up producing. LOL

Sounds like this would be VERY ANNOYING on 2 pedal cars. I am assuming that every time you come to a complete stop with your foot on the brake the engine shuts off and then restarts when you take your foot off the brake. Sounds like a nightmare in stop and go traffic where you may have to stop every few feet.

Not so bad on the 3 pedal car as the brochure states you have to shift to neutral and disengage the clutch for the engine to automatically shut off. You may want to do this in a construction zone where your wait could be several minutes.
