After 13 years and 4 different 308 QV's, 3 x GTB, 1 x GTS, I am coming around to the idea that its time for a change. My next Ferrari that I have in mind is a 360 coupe, I'm not decided on manual or F1, though I am leaning towards manual.

I expect I won't be the first or last Ferrari owner to change from a 308 to 360, but was hoping I might get some insight from anyone that has made that change. How big a difference are the cars, what was the biggest thing that you noticed, what was the smallest thing? Was it a good move, do you have any regrets?

One of my main concerns is value, my 308 QV is going up in value where as 360's seem to be still going down a little. Would I like the move for driving pleasure but regret it financially? I'm open to any thoughts that you have.

I just sold my 355 and got a 2002 360 1 month ago. It's a spectacular car and you will love every minute of it. It's obviously a huge upgrade from a 308. There would be too much to write about the upgrade so if you want to private message me you can call me and I'll be glad to talk about it all day long. But the one thing that I can tell you right off the bat is that the market for them is great and I also suggest that you make sure you get 2002 or later. By 2002 all the minor issues were addressed and also the TCU was upgraded. That obviously means that mine is F1 and in case you're considering F1 that year is very important because that's when Ferrari finally started getting it right. I grew up being a stick shift guy but I think you will have an absolute blast with the F1 gearbox. The 360 is not so much a pure race car like the 355 or308 was but more of a luxury meets sports car every day Ferrari. It is a very big and spacious car with a very nice interior and personally I think the coupe is the way to go. The market is really good right now and that's why I made the upgrade. However I believe it is bottoming out since obviously the markets can't allow for it to fall cheaper than the 355.

I went from a 308 to a 360 about 4 years ago. Totally different car in so many ways. I loved my 308 but the 360 is just a dream to drive. It is so much more modern and drives so smoothly. It is also reliable, has AC that actually keeps you cool and right now a 360 has tremendous bang for your buck. I have a manual, did not want an F1, and just love it. I still think back fondly of my 308 but then I look in the garage and love that I have a 360.

You won't look back. I had three 308's, a 328, and a Testarossa, and now a 360 f1. Moving up the ladder. I still love seeing 308's, but don't miss them.

Thanks for all your comments. One of the next stages in this process for me is to try one on for size. I spoke to my local independant Ferrari dealer yesterday and have arranged to go over on Saturday the 20th to test drive both a manual 360 coupe and F1 360 coupe. I think once I have driven them it will then fill in alot of the blanks for me. He sounded very interested in my car, 308 GTB QV 34,000 miles, Rosso Corsa/Crema, which makes me cautious.

As part of this process I think I have to answer a fundamental question- Do I own a Ferrari because its an investment or because I like to drive it? I think the 308 is a better investment, whereas I imagine the 360 will be better to drive. I drove my 308 for 500 miles last year and it went up in value by a couple of thousand pounds. I'm aware that my cars value is on the up and the 360's aren't.

I'm interested in the comment made about buying a 2002 or later F1 model, regarding the sweeter shifting. I have seen cars for sale that have the Stradale Challenge shifter software fitted. Can anyone shed a bit more light on that topic?

    Rick,

Whereabouts in the UK are you? I'm in Cheshire. I cannot give you insight into the difference between a 308 and 360 as I haven't owned a 308.
I did spend ages on the learning curve before I pulled the trigger and happy to share what I know either F2F, by PM or on a call.
