Well done -- the (moisture) corrosion on the mounting bosses probably is what caused the crack and then killed the internals (allowing moisture intrusion).

Please add your photos (showing the Bosch 10-digit part number and the firing assignments) to the TR/512TR/512M part crossreference thread if you haven't already done so -- TIA.

Could this be taken as a good reason not to spray down your engine compartment with a garden hose?

No, because if you drive in the rain, it also will be very wet inside the engine compartiment ....

And over here in Europe, we have a lot of rain during the season .... :)

Thanx for the info John !!

OEM F because had the shop asked to repair it and had no time to look in the Internet myself...

Do you have a Bosch replacement ?

Found one add in the Internet; price is almost the same as OEM 221503449; F partnumbers on the bottom of the add ...

And even more research gets you a list with other suppliers ... have a go !

Whaauw ... after more searching ... finding them in my own country FAR cheaper ..................

Since you mention spraying down the engine with a hose, can you tell me any tips to cleaning the engine with water/hose? I have never done this and worry about causing problems. Plain water? Any type of cleaner? how to wipe down after or what if anything to do? Avoid this altogether? any thoughts on how best to clean engine area after dusty drive?

    Thanks.

I do never specially hose down the engine (bay) because I don't want to damage the (hot) exhaust system.

But I normal rinse down the car outside so the engine bay will also get some water in it.

Never cleaned the bay with fluids, only used a damp cloth to get dust away ... ;)
