http://www.ats-autosport.com/company/about-us/ Saw it on Jalopnik today. The renderings look very very good. I am not so crazy about it being a Subaru engine in there, but the car looks promising... Of course it'll probably never happen...
definitely just a p-shop dream at this point ...the road car images are a morph of the ginetta g60 and noble m12, the lights are defintely (interior portion anyways) cut & paste from 458/F12 image(s)

Here is a closer shot of the P shop dream, notice how well they did that cut and past of the lights looks almost real. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The gazillion failed undertakings like this we've seen before... I'd love to see those on the road, but I don't think it will happen. Maybe a prototype, maybe a few cars sold, but not on a noticeable scale...
it's easy to be curt with other info in hand ...based on that website alone, is just digital images ....the body buck we see differs from the digital images btw
Lean is the sense that it was a 1960's car. These days bloated is the norm. Compare Alfa 8C to a TZ2, or a 33 Stradale.... Bloated... Doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Nice to see some pics of the mock up...
I am sure it will look fine, they already have the smaller track racers built. These guys seem to be highly motivated. The interior is going to be in a retro look and it sounds like they have their power plant which I think is a good choice because of all the racing and knowledge available, not to mention lower cost.
It's extremely difficult to design a 'lean' car with today's pedestrian protection rules. No question this will be a fine car, but how many buyers are out there? Those who know a to the public rather obscure, half-forgotten Italian brand and are willing to fork out six figure sums (I don't think it will be less...) for a Subaru powered sports car are not many, I suppose.
Using the Subaru would enable them to ship to the USA without an engine, thus getting around the federal laws. It will be low production, but there is nothing wrong with that.
A 4 cylinder supercar won't sell many for six figures. The Subaru motor will also be a deal breaker. If it does happen it will be a very short lived venture.
At least time-wise that would be in keeping with the original. I agree, wrong powerplant (even if it is very good) I also see flaws in the styling that could be ironed out. Bloated, yes, and even with all the legislation, something a little leaner looking can certainly be achieved. Bloated may be the norm, somehow, I call it a lack of creativity in general. Last: How many remember an obscure marque like ATS?
With the Subaru engine its quite similar to the OSCA Dromos 2500 GT from 2001. It might be the same italian group behind it, think that was GMP, and this is just a re hash of a old design. sw
Man you guys are negative the strada isn't even done yet and your bagging on it. At least they are building it.
They should do it right or not at all. ATS atleast made their own engines back in the day. Chiti even used the ATS motor as a basis for the 2 liter Alfa T33 motors. This new thing has a Japanese sourced engine. It's an ATS in name only. Might as well offer it as a kit and let the owner decide what engine to install.
I really liked the Osca Dromes, great concept. A light car, with great styling excellent chassis and powerful charismatic off the rack motor. Kinda like an Italian Lotus except maybe better. I would guess price will kill this project. Not sure about the styling either, it looks kinda generic, whereas the Osca was really like a modernised T33 alfa. It will have to compete with the alfa 4c. Also was there not a gemran car with Vr6 motor designed by fisker of similar concept. i seem to remember reading some articles on it, and then it dissapereared during the recession to reappear a year or so ago. Also doomed I think due to price. If you want to sell these specialised cars with off the rack motor they have to be appreciably less than a porche boxter, and the market is to entusiasts so the performance needs to be a notch above. All great concepts, but as porche is 75% or more sales to brand poseurs driving PDK you need to appeal to the other 25% hard core drivers who know the difference and will buy if it objectively and subjectively better while making allowances for small build devlopment issues, which means there needs to eb a reasonabvle price, whci probably wont happen here.
Just looked at the dromos pics again. The ATS while not complete seems to lack the drama and style of the Dromos. ATS seems a very generic type design, pity.
The Artega, built by a automotive supplier to a considerably high standard. I've seen them several times in the flesh, great cars, but no one would buy them... in the recession, the supplier sold the Artega subsidiary to a Mexican investor and lately bought back what remained. No further production is planned IIRC. Image Unavailable, Please Login
guys you are negative!! Let`s wait and see if they manage to bring back the marque I`m not so shure about the 4 cylinder engine option either, but apart from that I like it! Artega is bankrupt by the way
Pity about artega. I guess price was a detriment, gibe the performance and spec. Then for the money they were asking a Vr6 motor did not cut it. Lastly if youa re appealing to the hard core sportscar niche then Flappy paddles will always abe a potential drawback. Although alfa 4c will be a fallpy paddle, and lately rumored to also come with a 3.2 V6, might be real interesting. One of the things that makes all these 3 cars interesting is that they are small and relaively light, so with relatively modest powwer should perform beyond what can be used on the road, and theor weight makes them appealing for the track. Kinda like where porche started with the 911. But we do live in a era of overcapable cars like the 458 and various others, so those with the $$$ to spend go for the overkill with an overlay of luxury. ATS and its ilk are more raw and spartan, but their concept is more fitting for the times and usage possibilities, at least fort hose who prioritise drive over arrive. For the right price they would sell. Lets see what Alfa does with the 4c. Pity still; about the artega, it would have made a perfect lotus evora, somhow brand name does count, and ATS will struggle unless their product really hits the ball out the park.
Personally I hope the ATS succeeds because it's a good looking car, and sounds like they are thinking the right thoughts about how it should drive/look/cost...
ATS looks good IMO I love Italian engines, but I totally get why the Subaru is used, younger people like them and there is a huge aftermarket for upgrades. To not use it is like telling Bizzarrini not use a 327 Corvette engine back in the sixties Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
