I assume you're talking about Gilles? They blew it big time not signing him. No idea why they didn't like his driving.
They signed him to his first contract as third driver although he ran only one race for them. Apparently he was set to switch back to them had he survived.
I believe they didn't like the fact that he spun like a mad man in his test with them, but the reason he did this shows simply how really good he was. He spun on almost every corner because he had limited time and wanted to quickly find the limits on the corners. They instead thought he was crazy ... Pete
You heard the team orders: Back off, you're scaring the baby. Alonso tends to forget everything else when his teammate is in view. We saw that when he was ranting at Fisi at Renault, when he was at war with Lewis at McLaren, when he sent Piquet out to crash, and when he was spending all his time punting Massa off the track (and pit entry), before Massa faded back. The transmission we *didn't* hear was probably something along the lines of: "Fernando is faster than you" "Then tell him to get his butt up here and go around." If he was faster than Massa, why did they need Phil to slow down to let Fred go by? Massa wasn't blocking at any point. What people keep forgetting was that Massa did come back strong after his accident. But he was distracting Alonso, before they moved him back.
You clearly did not watch the race for if you had you would have noticed that Massa was quicker than Alonso today and he was asked to slow down. Another credible drive by Massa.
No.......A brilliant drive by Massa........Credit where its due please....... No doubt he would have taken Alonso today. The turn araound in his form is incredible. Very happy for him.
My point. Massa hit his head in 2009 and lose it. Completely reduced to a useless driver who should have been sacked. Now years later he appears to have hit his head again, and is back to normal. More or less the good old Massa we knew. And while it's great, it's also way way too late. I did watch the race.
THis was the third podium for Massa this year, unfortunatly, for the second time after MOnza he was no alowed to take it...tobad because i think he had pace to chalenge Webber for second place...unfortunatly he had a mobile chicane in front that he could not overtake!!!
the car is good again..massa is fast again....but but haters got nothing to bash so turning to alonzo bashing
.....and Perez is the savior lol?? He needs help. Glad to see Mclaren taking on the bash boy. Just ask JB about that Sauber team today lol! LdM was right about Perez toooooo young and immature.
That's funny. Too bad Phil has been missing all year and if he had been driving like this in the first half of the season maybe Fred would still be leading the wdc and Phil would have had his contract renewed awhile ago. Driving for his job made Phil wake the f up from a complete failure of a season.
This bit alone is reason enough to sack him. if that is his standard after the accident, sack him. He should understand the car and tyres from the very first race.
so he sucks less today The real problem with Ferrari is adrian newer.........and ****ty pirelli tires make me not want to buy them, remember the time when bridgestone tires would lay down rubber on the track not marbles like these do. If that is on purpose it seems like it is counter intuitive and restricts overtaking?????? Maybe if they had good tires they could have one set (except for emergencies) like fuel.....
For My comments, see here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386317 As others have said, credit where credits due, Massa drove superbly today, and yes he was faster than Alonso, but it would have been an error to mess about allowing him to run ahead of Alonso and then attack Webber with a view to giving Alonso a chance at passing him too. That tactic would have involved backing Webber up to Alonso and then trying to get Alonso ahead of a battling Webber and then back around Massa. The second part, passing Massa, would not have been an issue, but passing Webber in these circumstances carries a high risk of another DNF for Alonso. As I've said in the linked thread, I'm wondering if there's been more to Massa's form this season than we've all known about!
massa is fast when all his planets align... good tires. good weather, no traffic, good car, etc. change anyone of those and he goes off the rails. ed
+1 I'd go as far to say *most* of the rest of the field - It's a rare talent (Fred may be the only one right now) that can make a car faster than it wants to be....... Cheers, Ian
