Paul, coming back to your proposal no. 5... The appropriate strip of Autobahn is very near to my house. Three lanes per direction, no curves (thus very adequate for K chassis) and yes, no speed limit. Anyone venturing to max his K on the German A5 is invited to drinks in Karlsruhe. Bring your own blonde though Best, O
Otto Thanks for the offer. I am keen to try and v max the car and have a good two way reading, with video. I do not think it will be this year, but will see what can do for next year! Paul
Hello all, Only once in a great while do I find anything of interest on Ebay anymore but I found this on Ebay UK recently: a full page ad by the Maserati importer of that era. The page size is 70's daily paper huge. Now the question is do any of you in the UK have a strange hollow spot on your bonnet and always wondered what caused it? This model sitting on it may be the reason and your answer at long last best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi All Should not be too hard to work out who know owns the car, Clue one It Appears to be a RHD so that reduces the odds somewhat! Clue two is some filler in that area of the bonnet! Graeme
Hi Graeme, It is still a vast number of cars to pick from unfortunately and one would need the importer's records. I did not mean to disrespect the lady though I am sure she sat gently MS
Can't be that many towards the end Marc, the firm only took over the import business in 1980 until 1986, so in that period not many K's would have come to the UK. (i.e. I think 1982 was last year any were registered) At least I know it's not mine (which I know passed throught their hands) as it's not a silver car pictured due tot he contrast difference between body and bumper. Phew said he wiping his brow and chuckling at the same time.... Bal
Hi All Has any one purchased a set of these? Please scrowl down the page for the Khamsin listing. http://www.comp.co.uk/wheels/wheels.asp?size=classic-and-special-order-wheels-15-17 Regards Graeme
Last time (about two years ago) I got in touch with them (Compomotive in the UK) and they told me that they had stopped making most of those wheels, quite a long time ago. They also told me that they had no plans to make the two-piece ones ever again. I hope they restarted production because some of those wheels really look good and match our cars nicely.
Hi I bought a set two years ago from Hein Brand in Germany who has the compomotive wheels made and I am very pleased with quality, trueness etc. Regards Rolf
Hi Rolf Thanks for the info . I checked the site and they are not listed. Shame really they are probably better made than the orignals Reagrsd Graeme
Dear all, Was contacted today by Heinbrand. He is planning to run a new batch later this year. He needs a certain amount of orders to produce around 100 wheels. A set of four will set you back € 2000. Anyone who is interested should contact him. Gr Michel
I spent 6 months trying to get a response from Heinbrand to purchase a set for my Ghibli but never got a response so have repaired my existing ones instead. I do like the added integrity of the Heinbrand wheels but having seen them first hand recently was disappointed how easy it was to tell they were not original - different spacing between centre section and rim plus 'HB' cast into the rim in a very obvious place. Is there a reason they are not true replicas?
The copyright for these is owned by a company that owns the Campagnolo Brand name and I believe its a chinese company. My only wish is they made them as a center for 2 or 3 piece in 16 or 17 so we can buy decent tyre sizes even15 x 8 or 9 inch wide would be helpfull Graeme
Hi Graeme, I liked some of the wheels on the Compomotive site and clicked on the link to the Group4 website. They appear to be cranking up the availability of the PAG 15 range which look like a replica of the racing campagnolo Bora Group 4 wheels. They are a lot cheaper direct than the same wheels on ebay under Maserati listings. They are considering making these styles in 17" sizes. Maybe a 8" and 9" would offer a good filling of the arches on Merak for instance and offer better choices of tyres too. How would these sizes work on a Khamsin? I could mock up the appearance tomorrow if you're interested Julian http://www.group4wheels.com/
Hi Julian I have seen those and I quite like them. The style is "reminicent" of the Khamsin Rims and having Linage to the Bora they are an option. I would consider them for my other project ( non Maserati so please dont ask) Regards Graeme
There are companies here that will use the original centres and put them in 16" rims, still as a 1-piece rim, I am sure this must be possible in other places as well. It isn't cheap, and I certainly don't want to cut up my original wheels, unless I have an extra set. I agree though, even if one could go to 16", the modern rubber available in that size would transform the car. It made an uncanny difference with my 308 from metric TRX. Also, a 16" rim wouldn't look too different from original, IMO 17 becomes quite obvious.
Hi, Yes , you're probably right about the 16" wheels looking less obviously non original. Make mine a set of 16 x 8 fronts and 16 x 9 rears!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
http://www.group4wheels.com/index.html Hi Walter, These wheels are photoshopped onto the car to create the impression of how they would look ONLY. I would like to see a set on a Merak for real and I think a Bora is somewhere Julian
