With the surge of RedBull can Scuderia Ferrari and Alonso take back the championship lead and win it?

Of course. The team need to give him just a touch more speed and he will win it. They need to improve the car. Certainly his skills are not the problem.

Of course. We've already seen many times this year teams go from hero to zero over the course of a few races. It's still wide open IMO. A lucky break or two coupled with the opposite for the Cans and he's in the lead again. An upgrade or two that work wouldn't hurt either.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

One DNF at this point can make or break the championship. And it can happen due to mechanical issues, or most likely, an accident. Therefore, the best bet is to start out front. And Vettel has the qualifying advantage. But Alonso has the edge on race day IMO. Ferrari is very competitive now... BUT it depends which track we're talking about. I don't know which car is favored on the remaining tracks. An optimal setup is also critical, and any team can mess it up, like it has happened throughout the season. Also a botched pit stop can change things dramatically.

Bottom line is with a championship this close, it should get down to the wire if both contenders can avoid another DNF (remember Alonso has 2, vs 3 for Vettel :D). Qualifying in front row is crucial to avoid potential mayhem from first lap accidents. Finally, it'd be nice to see both championships clinched at Austin, but I'm afraid RB will wrap the WCC in Abu Dhabi. And the WDC most likely will be decided in Brazil. Looking forward to the end of the season.

Ferrari needs McLaren to find their speed again. Hamilton can win this title for Alonso by putting it on pole a couple times. When Vettel can't ride off into the sunset from pole, he has a much rougher time and is more prone to mistakes.

It looks bleak right now and Japan really hurt but I really can't see Vettel winning the last four races to make 7 in a row.

No problem. Alonso just needs to convince Massa to crash on a certain lap.

There's still a truckload of points left in podiums alone.

It's not over yet, too early to call.

Therein lies the problem-lack of upgrades whilst rb keeps pushing. I don't think anymore new parts are coming. Fred will need to do this on his own.

While Alonso is up to the task, I do not believe Ferrari will be of any help to him.

He's really played the role of "spoiler", hasn't he? Vittel may be the only one of the leaders he's not crashed into or caused to crash so far!

It's only 6 pts difference now, but it'll depend heavily on the next race. If it's another red bull show it might just be all over safe for a DNF by vettel.

Not considering any bad luck on both sides, I think Vettel wil win it. The RB is too fast right now and I don't see them loosing that considerable edge for the last few races. Sorry :(

I would put my money on vettel, he as got a faste rcar and he is also is faster than Alonso...but anything can happen, and Alonso as still a good chance...nothing tells me that next race Ferrari won´t be the best car....But Alonso will need Felipe help, especially in Brazil.

They haven't had any effective improvements for 6 races now. Lets hope they work.

Of course he can pull it back, but we do need luck. Another Renault alternator going pop would be useful. We need McLaren and Ferrari to turn up in India with some great updates, but I don't really think we can rely on McLaren as I think they are winding down and looking to 2013. Alonso has the skill and the mental toughness to pull it off, but I'm not sure he's got the car. I don't like wishing bad luck on Vettel, but if that's what it takes...

I'll take a win in any way possible other than FIA race-fixing like 2008 or an injury to Vettel.

    Bring on a DNF!

Three out of the remaining 4 GP's Tracks are favored to Red Bull Plus they are faster than Ferrari. It ain't gonna happen for Alonso.
I wouldn't surprised if Vettel wraps it up at Austin GP - IMHO
