the little blue thing is for the tire gauge!
cool, thats a help, didn't know what it was for, not sure if I've got the guage :/ How long have you owned your gem Ed? also what color is it? I once owned a granite green metallic 87 930, looked a little like that, minus the green
here is a photo of the (stay puff ) seats as my freinds have been nick named them ! I have two cars with these seats Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ed, Ive viewed your YouTube videos many times and they are awesome. Besides the Martini equipped 78/79 930s, your 79 may be one of the few equipped with the ortho seats. Having the 930 extra parts still sealed in the original Porsche plastic bag is amazing. One other thing I remember from one of your videos is when you find the original key tag on the drivers side pocket. I'm still hoping that someday I'll unearth my key tag somewhere in my car!
Most of the photos are before i cleaned it up was covered in a inch of dust It was a real barn find with 21 other cars
Nope i'm not really a seller but would interesting to see what poeple think starting to play with the miura and boy that is costly
Mang, very cool 'stuff' in the front trunk of your 930. When I bought my 930, the Hirschmann antenna manual was still in the glove box (still sealed in plastic, kind of feels like there is a metal part inside??). http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/930antenna1.jpg
The back left seat was out of my 930 car as it was sent back to the factory so they could match the interior of the 1981 targa ! Had to go thur his other warehouses to find it . It is was in the shipping box thank god this guy does not throw out anything
My friend's shop also has #471. There is one more 79 that comes to the shop, but it is probably still in storage. A gorgeous mocha 78 with 1400 miles was owned by my friend, but sold it to a customer. Mileage on that car is probably in the 60k range now as it is a daily. Then the guy repainted it black.
Low mileage '79's were more common before the 930 returned in 1986. Here's a black/black '79 with 1,200 original miles in a 1984 Robb Report. http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/84robbreport.jpg Another black/red '79 with 5,500 original miles in the same 1984 Robb Report. http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/robbreport.jpg
That is definitely the case with so many 79's. when Porsche announced no more 930's for the US market, many a 'speculator' were acquiring 79's as the last 930 and preserving them. Then when they returned in '86, a lot of 79's were dusted off to become more 'driver' status. Exactly how mine went...original owner let it go to nephew when it was no longer gonna be a 'collectors item ). Good news is they were squirreled away often with factory and dealer parts etc. and those pieces are cool to have now!
i really F'ed up the cosmetics (dial face) on the best one i had when i tried to clean it. i need to actually see if i can make 1 good radio out of the 3 but it hasn't ben a priority. there is supposed to be a guy in south atlanta that can get these things in good shape.
Mine is in excellent shape, like new. I am just missing that 'adjustor' that goes on under the knob. If you have spares, gimme a shout. I just discovered it is missing last night. Thanks
idart, Youre amazing. Where do you keep coming up with these observations? Before you posted your CR side by side shots, I was never aware of the knob changes. Heres a quick shot of the CR from my 2/79 build 930. Its a little dusty and needs to be sanitized a bit as its never been cleaned since I bought the car. It still works great and amazingly still sounds pretty good after over 30 years. The Hirschmann antenna is still operating flawlessly up and down when the radio is turned on and off. Guess the POs preserved it by listening to the Turbos spool rather than Pink Floyd -- but Ive always enjoyed both. Image Unavailable, Please Login
930, your radio looks very nice. It's interesting how there were so many changes to the U.S. 79 930s including the changes to the radio knobs. Im equally intrigued by the radio delete 930s. Ive already posted images of the 79 930 that was featured in the '80 ROW 911 Turbo brochure. It appears to be a 79 ROW 930 (VIN between 9309700011 - 9309700820) since it has the earlier A/C center vents and snorkel headlight washers. This 930 was equipped with some very rare deletes, options, and non-options: - Pasha blue interior - Non-optioned sunroof - Non-optioned right mirror - Radio delete - Air conditioner delete I only recently noticed that the air conditioner controls were missing from the center panel making this 930 an A/C delete. This 79 ROW 930 was probably 200-300 pounds lighter than contemporary 930s and with 300 bhp, it must have been very quick. I wonder if it is a survivor. http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/930acdelete.jpg http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/804.jpg http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/802.jpg
Ok if you look at the back tires they are p/7s but they have a side wall lip that is not on all p/7s why ? I've been told they were only on 930's My car has the lip but I can not find many other photos that show them! Any help out there?
Ed, you have one of the very few 79 930s that still have original P7s. Heres a few photo scans of my '79 930 when it still had P7s. They were worn out when I replaced them but I should have kept them for old times sake. Hope this helps. http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/19799301.jpg http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/19799302.jpg
For the 78-79 930s, the Pirelli P7's were: 205/55 VR 16 - front 225/50 VR 16 - rear A NOS set would be nice but I don't know if I would trust a 30+ year old tires VR rating. What would be even better is for Pirelli to reproduce P7s (if they still have the tooling) in a limited commemorative edition although there's probably not a cost-benefit.
Here's the '78-79 ROW Blaupunkt Autoradio CR version. Note the FM range at 104 MHZ (vs. 108 MHZ for the U.S. version). http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/930radiorow.jpg
No Mans Land, 1987 I had always thought this was a 78-79 930 but why would it have a speaker cutout on the dash? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZs4F3qe-M[/ame] http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/carrlane/930nomansland.jpg
