It is a very nice one. See pics. So the Espada is going to OKC, not Colorado. I was mis-informed by the seller. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello John, congrats on your Espada. Will you be bring it to any C&C events in OKC? I am going to start coming to these meets with my 348 soon and would love to see it. Thanks
Been taking my 550 Maranello when weather permits and I am in town and will bring the Espada to C and C once we have had a chance to give it a thorough check and service. I also plan to add powersteering which this particular Series II does not have. John
Have you taken a look at the EZ powersteering system. It's an electric add on that goes under the dash. They supposedly have done an Espada. http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/index.php?p=0 There's a guy on here that's added it to his Countach but he's not updated the thread since July. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=351715&highlight=power+steering+countach The thing about Espadas and steering is that a number of them have cracked their frames where the box mounts into the frame. So adding power steering will exacerbate the issue. Guys have added gusseting in that spot which seems to fix the issue.
Ez Powering has a kit for the Espada. I ordered one last week. Am also aware of the need to reinforce the area arond the steering box mount. Willpost a detail about the complete install when finished. John
yesssir i know this all too well !! RM did a fine job of the additional gusset but it was lots of labour . On mine 3 of the 4 welds had actually let go and now of course it drives like a modern car !! Gary Espada 8394
The car really needs power steering until you're well under way. The factory's system is such an enormous amount of "stuff" to add to the car and I really like how the engine compartment in mine is so clean and simple with zero power junk or emissions junk. I'm really looking forward to a report on this.
i will take a stab at this ....... concours S1 80k euros concours S2 70k euros problem is non ever come for sale that are truly concours .... a driver and a "needs work" are really the same car sort of maybe almost 50k euros for S2 and have not seen a decent driver S1 for sale in a while .... chime in Espada gods Gary Espada 8394
In the six or seven years I've been involved with Espadas I've never seen a decent s1 for sale. They are always a mess. I've only seen one s2 that was a really nice original car and "looked" like it had no issues. Looked. I've seen one s3 that had been completely gone through and it still was not a 100 point car. There have been several s3 cars that looked like good drivers. I think Roy Cats had one. The s3 cars in decent driving shape just seem more prevalent than anything else. Finding one without the big rubber bumpers is harder to do. The s2 cars will be the most plentiful but you should expect to do plenty of work on those. You just saw what that nice s2 sold for. I found that somewhat encouraging. It looks pretty good but once you start using a car that's again that's had such little use over all those years well, stuff starts to happen. There could be braking system, suspension, transmission and engine issues to deal with if the car is to be put back to anything close to original operating conditions. Ask Gary and I how we know ... LOL. The parts for that sort of work are NOW more readily available than they were 6 years ago. But you'll have to supply the money and or labor to get it done. Engine and transmission work on these cars is very expensive. The other systems are just like other cars except that those brake boosters seem to cause trouble for a lot of folks. I've been fortunate in that department. Mine were already rebuilt. There's a treasure trove of stories in all those old posts on the VLG. You don't have to ask a lot of questions to find out either. Just go read some of the archive stuff. You'll develop a sense about what to look for and the potential issues. The only parts cars I ever see are the ones at Eurospares. God they seem to have a lot of them too. It's so sad to see those half finished cars being parted out. There's a lesson to be learned from those. I think Gary's prices are spot on.
I was surprised at the sale price on the brown one. I thought it was a deadbeat f-ing around on ebay. Good and bad, good because I love it when any Lambos go up. Bad because it starts to become out of reach for my goal: to own a Countach Urraco Jarama and Espada. The trouble-some boosters on my Jarama have been replaced with something more modern and I think American commonly used on hot rods. Will check with Chad on that one. Guys, I would heavily suggest moving on from the original booster. +1 on VLG. My experience based on operating a restoration shop since 1985 is that you are always better off paying a premium for the car you want if it meets certain criteria. Little or no rust, An interior that doesn't need to be replaced, paint and body work that does not require extensive work. As others of you can attest, the repair and replacement of each of the above can run into big bucks. Rust depending upon the extent can easily cost $10000 to $$$$, a new interior $15000 to $20000, complete strip and repaint, $15000 to $20000. I wanted a driver, not a showcar. We can bring this car up to a 95-98 point car with an expenditure of approx. $10000 including conversion to powersteering only because it is excellent condition to start out with. I looked at six other cars before this one appeared out of the blue. Fortunately I acted immediately as there were two othe interested parties in Colorado and arizona who I believe would have purchased the car had I not. I fully agree that all these Italian beauties are both impractical and expensive to own , so if you buy try and buy the best available even if it costs a bit more upfront. I will try and keep you apprised of the time and money spent on this project. We are just finishing up a Miura, a Ferrari Daytona and have a 330Gt for a ground up. Lots of Webers. John

For the love of Christ! Is that what it cost to redo the Espada interior??? 15k-20k? THAT is some serious money.
i paid north of 20k but im also nuts remember ! Its done perfectly and with correct perforations all the way from Italy Gary Espada 8394 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can confirm that ... LOL I've spoken with a couple of shops and I think the paint numbers are what's a going rate in a good shop. But the interior price is high IMHO. Gary had Valentino hand punch each perforation hole in the seat. Well almost ... We need someone to make a die to punch those over here because sending the leather to Italy and back seems nutty to me. I've known two people who have done it so far though. it is is a big car with lots of interior. A QPIII would be even worse! Gary it looks gorgeous. I hope to see it one day?
John, I think you may be right about at least one party from Colorado about buying the car. Love to see your Espada in the near future. Tom
Anyone on here own or have anything to do with an early bright red Espada last seen in Northern Tasmania, Australia? I was travelling behind it when it pulled into the Symmons Plains raceway yesterday. Nice car too, BTW!
I am almost sure DEW Motorcars in Northern Virginia has a machine/die/device to correctly reproduce the perforations in an Espada's interior leather.
