I hate to start another what do you think of this car thread, but my brothers search for a fcar continues. He was looking for a nero 328 GTB which he has researched heavily and stumbled across this 512BBI for sale out of Savannah, GA. Was just curious if you guys wouldnt mind looking at the photos and see if there is anything that doesnt look right etc. PPI was clear and I believe the seller is looking for 115k. Greatly appreciate the help as we are trying to figure out the BBI market.

That looks like a nice example....tons of touch up work to interior.

Price sounds "fair" to me that's a low mileage car.

They are not hiding anything someone can easily run this plate.
    Is this an Fchatters car??

We had a thread with all the VINs in it that post here....VIN is 51077

You realize the running costs of a Boxer will be about 4x a 328?

Yes, I think he is willing to accept that trade off plus the increase in purchase price. Certainly would end up with a more unique car with more future value potential as well. I am pushing this car as one of the best ways to own a boxer is to have a brother who owns and maintains one.

I recall Sid Simpson telling me once:

"What's 4 more spark plugs?....you can carry a bigger ice chest."

That was Sid, he knows his stuff!!!

    Good day Keith,

You may wish to consider this car in this thread:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386477

    pics of the car:

    http://www.salernomotorsports.com/1983_Ferrari_512_BBi.html

I am not connected to the car or the seller, but thought that the car looked really clean in the pics (and I have a soft spot for grey/silver Ferraris :)) and the price was very reasonable ($83K USD if I remember) if the car checks out...

    Cheers,

    Sam

the black savanah boxer is the harold javetz car. he is what i understand to be a very serious car collector and i would assume due to his ferrari history, this would be a very good boxer to look at.

google search harold javetz and you will learn much about the owner and his cars!!

o boxer is a big step up from a 328 but a true big boy ferrari!!

This car is with Jay Javetz, Harold's son...he does post here, as 'V-12 Power', in response to someone asking about his Dad in the Dino Section.
A post from 2011 reflected the Boxer was for sale or trade....

    carreaper says he knows Jay.

I believe all boxers were imported as grey market cars. They didn't pass federal emission and safety standards. That is why Ferrari came out with the TR.

Possibly.....hard to say, would depend how it was used and also what State it was in.

Importation required a Bond and when you proved modified compliance, you got your bond back.
Or. you could wander off into the woods, if you had "f%^& you" money.....:D :D :D

"EPA/DOT papers" is what it's called, and you can check the status of any VIN even today with a phone call.
I'd wager a collector like this knew the ropes...

Many modded cars have been unmodded, and a few were "checked off" without many mods at all......I hear!

Canada for instance was more lenient, good hunting ground there, except for the weather and rust.

    VERY desirable ID #..
From the Pics....I would go out on a limb and say Mileage is questionable...Do some research and look for service records...

In top shape this car would be a keeper.

in the second pic, it looks to have the amerispec import sticker with info on the driver's side doorjam - same as mine. just hone in on that sticker, and get the info you need from amerispec directly. they are very nice guys, and keep complete records on the car from start to finish.

to me it looks good, and the price is about right. thats not to say you wont find some deferred maintenance and need to reserve about 20k for that, but the bones are good, and if i am right about that sticker then it was federalized by the best in the biz so you wont have any worries about hidden bs.

Boxers #'s run ends at 5200 and change
most likely this car was produced in 84, as opposed to titled 84 cars that were produced in 83

Its like THE LAST STINGRAY scenario...not quite but!

    Ah....thanks!

Maybe after losing track of "the first one" I'll end up instead with Mr. Risi's "Last one"....

    I can always beg.....
