    Restored 308gt4 drops front bank. Using original coils and distributors with all new wiring/h t leads, battery etc. ran well (3000kms) then dropped front bank for no apparent reason. Mechanic replaced coils, checked disys and wiring, ran well for approx 500kms and dropped out again. Replaced condensers, ran well for approx 400kms and dropped out again. Happens at idle at normal running temp. Drove home on 4 cylinders, started car next morning was back on eight. Idling out of garage dropped front bank again. Any suggestions please?

    It sounds like an electric fault, not only because the nature of a GT4's carbs and fuel routing would seem to eliminate a fuel delivery issue, but also since the issue is sporadic based on temp/shaking.

    I would suspect there is a frayed wire or loose connection to the front bank igntion. There are a few pesky little wires that are easily damaged and can also come loose. My suggestion is to start the car and then begin jiggling wires, such as those to the distributor and the ballast resistor(like the ground wires).

    Also -- not sure if your car still has the cold-start points in there, but it's possible (albeit not probable) that there's a problem with the cold-start circuit. I took mine out and only run normal points, because the system wasn't releasing to the normal points.

    According to my mechanic the original Euro cold start stuff was taken off from new when I bought it in 75. It's definitely not fuel so I agree that a loose wire is a possibility although all the wiring was renewed on rebuild and look solid. It won't start on 4 when cold so is going on the flat top to the workshop - again. It might be a faulty distributor cap so might have to risk buying a new one to be sure if we can't find any other problem. Thanks.
