it's the GTO prototype as in post 7366. Also that last press photo (post 7368) doesnt have the gated gear shift ... confused? Pete
Steve, i see what you mean, it does look like a 3/4 glass doesn't it? Pete, you're right, it is weird ...several items on the press photo car seem cleaned/smoothed over, and in the monza test pics can see some changes starting already (i.e. addition of rear fin) etc ....very cool to see progressive changes like that in photos
I've had a further look. It's actually 3 different sections to the windows in the doors. Look at the doors, one of which is open, both sides of your pic in post 7371. This pic is actually on Stirling Moss's web site and that's obviously him in the helmet. See here and scroll down the page: http://www.stirlingmoss.com/node/703 So Moss drove both the Sperimentale s/n 2643GT, referred to as the Prototype, and s/n 2053GT which is the prototype GTO. There's obviously lots known about this car as there's even models been made of it. The more I learn on this great site the more I realise I don't know. Or was it s/n 0523GT? See here: http://www.johnstarkeycars.com/pages/articles/articles_07.html Probably been discussed many times before on this site. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
If the GTO prototype was an ex-SWB berlinetta, it should have had three ears on bolt. But, it had only two, like the early 250 GT... Image Unavailable, Please Login
More here. http://www.finesportscars.com/ferrari_cars/250gto_prototype_info.html Did a replica of the prototype ever get made by Bizzarrini? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
very cool vintage photos ...glad that didn't turn out to be the final back-end styling design though LOL
Just been watching some videos of Giotto Bizzarrini where he's interviewd by somebody called Olczyk, who may be a member on this site. Anyway, Bizzarrini says that the Papera was based on his company Ferrari that Enzo Ferrari had given him to use. So if he's remembering the facts correctly the GTO prototype may well have been 0523GT, or is this not in dispute?
Here's one of the Giotto Bizzarrini interviews. Absolutely fascinating!!! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PflbipgeqvM&feature=g-hist[/ame]

First, I was and am a big Sir S. Moss fan whom I've gotten to know in the past 15 years. I also had the good fortune to know Rob Walker while I was at Road & Track. The simple graphics of dark blue and white nose stripe and roundels makes a stunning visual. The TT victories also help. The car is in great hands today. So, I guess it's just a matter of taste. There are a lot of great SWBs and if you can't get a GTO, these cars, Comp or Lusso versions, are the next best thing. And Rob had two so I'd settle for either. And racing at Goodwood with the radio on so Moss could listen to the race coverage ... what more can I say. : ) Second, I have to go back to work.
Good morning, Chuck! fancy meeting you here! I just logged on to F-chat looking for some reference to the passing of our friend, John Fitch. NY Times has a wonderful obit today. What a driver but more important, what a man. Best, Seth
Seth, good to hear from you. I had the opportunity to fly to an event with John and when the pilot found out he was on board he had to talk to John about his Ace-capades during the War. We almost didn't take off. He always had a warm greeting and unlike me, always remembered my name. I had the opportunity to work with him in the '80s. A great guy, no ego. CQ
I just spent some time going through this whole thread thinking to myself I cant believe I havent seen this thread yet! Awesome pictures guys!
wonderful thread .....not my pic, taken from FB link .....but very cool period picture, looks like over 1 billion worth (by todays values) of 250 GTOs and Shelby coupes caption says "Tour de France Automobile 1964" Image Unavailable, Please Login
since i'm stealing from FB anyways, here's another, caption says "chassis 3589GT in Ohio in the early 80's" how many might jump up "fake! replica!" if i posted without caption in the general section? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe in "General," but the "Vintage" folks here know it well. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137062694&postcount=34 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=135424921 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174744 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=57701
