As you may know, John Fitch passed away this morning. As a long time fixture at Lime Rock Park, it was always great to see him walking around at events talking with fans and signing memorabilia. I considered myself lucky to have met him a number of times and he was always humble and willing to chat.

John had a diverse career that spanned everything from fighter pilot, safety pioneer, arguably the grandfather of the modern Corvette racing effort and the only American to race for the Mercedes Benz factory team.

I will miss seeing him my next trip to LRP.

Below is a great video from a few years back with Leno:

    RIP John.

That guy was more of a man than I will ever be. His accomplishments are just stunning, it almost doesn't seem like a guy could have done so much. The man shot down a Messerschmidt ME-262 for crying out loud!

    RIP John.
It was always a high point of any Vintage event seeing him.
I particularly remember his drive up Equinox last summer. Everyone was expecting a sedate amble. Everyone save John.

    Godspeed.

    Rest In Peace, sir.

    What a life to live........

Racing Corvettes: The Early Years is indeed a fine read .......he has another title, about his time with Mercedes.
We have lost one of the great ones......a true innovator.

Among his list of achievements are shooting down an ME 262 and a number of innovations in highway safety.
    Quite a life.
